Not There

There on a low-end Mac

This screen capture shows some pretty interesting stuff:

  • It’s the Makena/There platform running, fully functional, on OSX
  • It’s on a LOW-END Mac (a 1.8 Ghz Macbook Air, the first generation with a lame on-board video card
  • A venue with over 100 chatprops and seats in it.
  • This is using our old terrain and collision engine. We have a new engine which we haven’t integrated yet.

The best part is that it runs at 30 Frames Per Second (FPS).

    Hello Michael,

I’m still sad because was closed.

I would like to be able to log in the ‘Virtual Congress’ just one time or maybe you can do something to open it just one day per week (for visitors) ๐Ÿ™‚

Then you will see how many thereians will come in ๐Ÿ™‚

Michael why are you doing demonstration scenes for?

Currently There works to support it’s commercial accounts, and improve the platform. Since we take pride in the platform we’ve built and continue to improve upon, we like to talk about it. And, in some cases, we can possibly help other people tackling the same problems.

Awesome job! Porting something over to Mac from Windows is no simple feat. If the client works on a relatively older mac, using old code, just think how great it will work on a new mac with the new code!

Congratulations on running the Mac OS on your new virtual world. Even though it took a very long time to run it, you finally got it! So, what browser are you using for the Mac client? Also, how is running on DX?

    • #8 by Michael Wilson on 2010.05.04 - 8:19 pm

The Browser is QtWebKit, which is Trolltech’s wrapper around WebKit.

It runs great under DX8, and DX9. Of course, with DX9, you need content to take advantage of it. We’re thinking of making moderators look like they’re made if liquid metal (true reflections), as in T2.

Kidding on the last bit. But we can make truly reflective surfaces now.

Sorry, but no, this is just a demonstration scene. Who knows? If we can get enough non-consumer business and can find a right model, who knows what’s possible in the future. To be fair, I wouldn’t count on anything though, sorry :-(.
