An, No, there have been legitimate offers for There.com.

    Hiya Michael,

It’s been 1 year and almost 1 month (but who is counting) since There closed.

You have been, in the last few months, feeding us tiny hints about some of the projects you have been working on.

I cannot speak for the rest of those following your comments, but my desire to be back in game has only grown since its demise.

With few exceptions I miss all my friends and even those who were not.

I seriously doubt that you have been active in There projects since its close unless, in the back of your mind you were considering reopening it.

The economy is showing signs of improvement in almost all sectors.

I realize it will be a BIG step financially and emotionally for you to once again open There.

How about giving those of us who wish to, once again, jump off of Avie Sacrifice, drive a buggy or just stand around and chat, a little incite into what your present thoughts are.

I’m not necessarily looking for a date, just something to arouse a little hope that it will be possible, some day, to stand in Zephyr and shoot with my old friends or even shoot your sorry carcass around πŸ™‚

Something I wrote just for you Mr. Wilson, and other Therians if interested. An article about approaching a new There.Com differently than the old one we all knew while keeping it very There.Com at the core. πŸ™‚ the main problem you face right now is cash to fun this project, so most of the article is based on how to reduce outgoings. I’ve read all the previous posts you had on this blog entry and the new ones. I know you’ve already been given loads of ideas, and have many of your own but always figure its worth a go.

    All the best.

Hello :). I have some questions,
    1. what can you say about Virtual Congress?
2.How can they have Virtual Congress open? do the students pay something?
    3. did you sell a part of There? or something like that..
    4. ‘hmm even that do you still being the owner of There.com?..
5.Virtual Congress is a small game.. can’t you do something like that with There? I mean some zones opens not all?
Will be great if you ansewr that questions.

And another question, were you the owner of Virtual MTV ?

I know I’m like 10 days late. So I’ll blame my age of forgetfulness. I thought to wish you a happy… err should I say unhappy one year anniversary. Depends on how you look at it I suppose.. πŸ™‚
I hope you think about stopping by the storage shed and dusting us off from time to time. My avie was allergic to dust. πŸ™‚

Don’t worry, all of the Avatars are safely stored, safer than they would have been in Carbonite, even (a few have misbehaved since There closed, and now decorate Jabba the Hut’s lair).

      • #14 by Brandyn_1 on 2011.03.20 - 2:35 pm

Mine is probably one thats acting up.. He always was a sneaking little devil xD Hahaha Well I’m so happy that they are stored away and I hope they are all comfortable! πŸ˜€ I know mine is sitting in his home in Coronado going to Babs events πŸ™‚

MW , will it be possible to open a client just for PaintBalling? And 1 or 2 Zones for it? How much would that cost? And I wouldnt doubt people would pay $X per month 2 play it.

Just out of curiosity, how much resources did ThereIM needed to be run? What I was thinking was, if you allow us to either A, make a new account for ThereIM or B, try to bring our Avatar back, but the clothes and stuff in our inventory wouldn’t be able to be used. We would get limited amount of clothes, and things to wear. It might help to reduce the servers, and than if possible maybe we would have to pay 10 dollars a month to keep ThereIM running or something. I don’t know too much with ThereIM, but it was nice to have. Even possible to make it on a Mobile App. πŸ™‚

  16. #19 by xSnoopy on 2011.02.06 - 7:39 pm

    MW,

    Isn’t this a double negative?

“An, No, there have been legitimate offers for There.com.”

There have or have not been legitimate offers for There.com. ? Last I heard, there had NOT been. Color me uninformed πŸ™‚

Sorry, I don’t follow the rumor boards.

  17. #20 by drfireee on 2011.02.06 - 8:51 am

hey,how much do you need to keep There.com open for a hour? we togheter could pay it πŸ˜€

    • #21 by Michael Wilson on 2011.02.07 - 10:52 pm

All of There? Well, let’s see, we’d need to start with about $300,000 worth of servers. And that’s just the beginning.

      • #22 by Brandyn_1 on 2011.02.08 - 7:47 am

I thought it cost about 70 million to run There? Is that correct?

      • #23 by Michael Wilson on 2011.02.08 - 10:21 pm

No….it cost millions to create There, but no, it didn’t cost 70M to run There.

      • #24 by there_forever on 2011.02.08 - 12:32 pm

WOW!!! But does that mean to use servers for 1 hour or so buy everything needed and run if for an hour?

      • #25 by Michael Wilson on 2011.02.08 - 10:23 pm

No, that’s the purchase cost for the servers. THEN we’d have to re-load the There software on all of them, restore the world (and all the avatars, their inventory, etc, etc), etc, etc. It’s not a trivial process, at all.

      • #26 by there_forever on 2011.02.08 - 12:34 pm

better rephrase it! does that cost include activating the servers as well as running them for an hour or just running then for an hour if all the servers were already up and running?

      • #27 by Brandyn_1 on 2011.02.09 - 7:04 am

Oh wow! I thought it took 70M to run it.. O_O. Well thats good that thats said lol. I really think you should make a post about the experiences of There.com πŸ™‚ Many people would love to know πŸ˜€

      • #28 by Brandyn_1 on 2011.02.09 - 7:07 am

Expense’s Sorry for the misspelling lol

  18. #29 by Thereian Fan on 2011.01.31 - 7:40 pm

The people who are making these rumors are those who haven’t been on the game long. Those who have been on the game at least a year or more, wouldn’t make these rumors. I noticed a lot how people are making groups, and other stuff now that really didn’t get into the game until it was too late. I think what everyone needs to learn is that, no matter what happens, we will always love There and wish for it to return. I think for the people who are making these rumors are those who don’t have anything better to do and would like to annoy people by saying that. Every time a friend would send me a message on FaceBook in asking if There is going to return and I informed them that watch the There site and see if anything changes. Only then you will know if There will return. I hope that people would stop making these rumors because your not only hurting others but your hurting yourself as well. It’s a waste of time in making false rumors. I love There with all my heart, but it’s better to let go from it and move on and spread your wings and see what’s out there. There are many amazing worlds to attend to that have similar functions with There, but not that close with it.

    ~Thereian Fan

P.S. Just out of curiosity, you think you will open There one last time before 2012? lol. Just had to ask that. πŸ˜›

  19. #30 by Richard Hallock on 2011.01.24 - 5:03 pm

You know, I have stopped being so annoyed by these rumors. They were really irritating to me at first, most of all the YouTube videos with There re-opening on a certain date. But my opinion is changing somewhat. They are becoming more and more like a “Spock Lives” or a “Killroy was here” sort of thing. Maybe more sort of an urban legend or even myth!

Will these same kids be posting these 20 years from now? The rumors seem to show no sign of slowing down or stopping currently. Sort of a testement to the enduring power the world you ran Mr. Wilson.

  20. #31 by Lauren-Nicole on 2011.01.24 - 12:27 pm

    Dear Michael Wilson,
I was on There.com for about 3 years.
    Best time ever.
I met some friends I STILL have now, & some friends that were only on There.
I wanted to give you “props” for trying so hard to keep it open.
I know alot of people probably hate you for closing it down, But it’s not your fault. It’s the economys. It truely sucks that There.com never made a profit & that There.com had to close because of it, I’ll give the people that. But, It’s just good that you havn’t lost touch. Meaning.. You still talk about There, You still talk to your former members, & You STILL are making an effort to reopen There.
You deserve a pat on the back.
Props to you, Michael, Props to you.
    Thanks again for everything,
I hope you reopen There someday, But then again, If you don’t, Just the fact that There DID exist, That’s enough for me(:,
    Lauren-Nicoleβ™₯

    One day… maybe one day…

What is Makena working on these days btw? Are there any new projects planned for the near or far future Virtual Congress style or something else maybe? Are you still improving the platform and maybe solving a few of those problems listed in your There Myths post?

  22. #34 by Austin B on 2011.01.17 - 4:08 pm

Not to state the obvious, but I hate it when people start those myths. Some people just dont understand how much others feel that they lost.

But one question I do have for Mr. Wilson is this: Was the possibility of paying popular people to come online discussed? In particular, bloggers and youtube stars. Overall, the fanbase to these people can be huge (http://www.youtube.com/members?g=0&s=ms&t=a). I know some users such as HouseholdHacker and Kipkay (both on page two) reviewed games and the other latest tech trends.

Although I know its too late now, I feel like something could have been done…
In fact, I feel like something *can* be done. How can this technology be so…useless…?

Just one more thing, are you still going to do that post outlining the costs of running There.com?

    Thanks.

  23. #35 by Brandyn_1 on 2011.01.17 - 2:49 pm

Well this we kinda expected. We will still hope for the day, But till then as buddy said We hope you do join us in RL+. I myself have settled there. It’s a cool place.

  25. #39 by buddy on 2011.01.17 - 12:32 pm

I thought so, people are spreading rumors and it spreads so fast, alot of people are still looking for their home, alittle part of me was hoping that it was true but logically it wouldn’t happen so I guess all we can do is still hope, or move on.

Hope you join us on RLP, we’d like to see a friendly face.
