Just a few questions….
1. Are the controls for the paintball going to be the same?
2. Likewise the boats and boards etc? (how about a long boost on the boards as well)
3. Will the avatars that hold hoods and funzones still have a chance to get them back? if so, will the hoods and the funzones be left the same as before or will we have to rebuild from scratch?
4. Will we have to pay for thereim when it comes on?
It’s a pity the under 18’s couldn’t have a seperate interface where they could go into there but not have an avatar and just look around and not interact. swear words being blotted out, no speech etc.
I wonder if we’ll get any sponsors back in? could have nike superbunnies etc….
Would like to see parrots that talk and fly instead of just dogs (yawn)
Also, how about a real aircraft sim. you’d be able to use any boat but have two modes of flying. One would be the ‘there’ flying way which i like anyway and the second way, you would have to take off properly and fly like a light aircraft using proper flight rules. (would love to be able to stall a dragon and spin into the ground). Prehaps have a joystick interface somehow. I remember there were quite a few pilots in there.
Can’t wait to get my tinkerbell outfit and wings back. (o.k. i’m 56 and i like tinkerbell.)

Mw some of us would like to know if the PaintBall Teams Can keep there names, I know the Snipers dont want ANYBODY else the take there name and iam sure Hellfish feels the same way. There are Griefers out there who would jump at the chance to grab and grief some PB team names like ours, these are our team names and we dont want ANYBODY else to have them!!!!!! these PB name are VERY IMPORTANT to us, so plzzzzz let us keep them. and your dog still cant help you in zephyr. lol

When they decide to announce that information I’m sure we’ll be the first to know just be patient and hold on to your donkey tail. Apparently they are not far enough along to answer this overly asked question yet.

It’s like any messenger except you also have full access to your change me, all your buddy list. I think you can search for other There members in it but can’t remember for sure. I doubt it will post any online notifications anywhere other than on the actual ThereIM and maybe in world but not here as this is not a There operated site. I’t used to show your status in the world with a special icon which I could never get my friends to notice because most of them never tried it so when I was using it they had no clue what the icon was for next to my name. The avatars load up in it just as though they are in the world in a viewer window which could be detached I think. but without the world features just a nice soft blue background. Maybe the background was changeable but I’m not sure. You can even dance and use all the gestures pretty much that you could use in world.
Those who wait for the world to open and skip ThereIM might be sorry because I get the feeling people who will learn to use ThereIM first will figure out that it basically has a lot chat features and group chat features, even world chat features that might come in extremely handy. I did not use it extensively because there were not enough people using it but I liked all the features it had and thought it was innovative being able to use my changeme and view my avatar and my buddies in the viewer.
There, I just gave you all a full blown description of ThereIM. You will want to use it and not avoid it at first because It’s so integrated into there I think lots of people will find very good uses for it. It might be the type of application they begin to build to use on these tablets and screens everyone is using now. So you want to learn to use it and possibly that’s why they want you to get used to it before you go in world. Eventually There has to have some way to hook into these screens and the social media on them or There truly could be a thing of the past. I have friends who will never again even consider a laptop or full blown home PC. It’s all about those hand held screens now.

Thanks for your reply, I was aware of what ThereIM is as I have used it. My question didn’t ask for information about ThereIM and like all Instant messengers, you can’t talk to someone if you don’t their username or if they are online. What would have been better before there shutdown was while in ThereIM you would have been able to have a list of the users in a certain area for example CosmoGirl Village, Fisher island, Zona etc. But how it worked before was you would make friends in the full 3d world add them to your buddy list and then log into ThereIM, you would then see them online.
If you have no one on your buddy list then you have no one to talk to. IMVU is similar not identical but at least it has a search feature be it based on gender or location and from those results you are able to talk to someone. It would be like having a skype/msn/yahoo account and no one sending an IM , how could they? they do even know I have an account.
P.S. I actually liked ThereIM.

Not right now because they don’t have the ((( help or funds ))) for help to protect minors. Maybe someday they will though so hang in there. It has nothing to do with being the least he can do it just isn’t possible right now. I’m sure he’d like to but it’s out of the question for the time being. All the teen users will be 18 sooner or later anyway.

ahh, well I have to admit it would be hard for me to wait that long too and I would probably be one of the teens asking for anyway to be part of There too. So i do feel sorry for you and I will miss the teens as I do feel they are a important part of a good community. They do keep the adults in line sometimes. Hang in there though because it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they open up a teen island or something to the effect down the road assuming this phase goes well.
Maybe they could have a ‘Parents Bring Your Teen Day’ once a month like on the last Saturday of every month when parents have more time to be with their kids at the computer screen and everyone in world would know the teens are about but I doubt this idea would work do to the terms and no help but it might be worth investigating. Or ‘Teen Hour’ once a day with a very controlled event where the teens can only be on that island or in that zone where the event is taking place…but the problem would be all the time zones. Just a thought to think on for some ideas. You never know if someone thinks up some super cool ideas for them to think about they might be willing to give something a try down the road.

I told a story a few posts ago where some set up undercover team or person posed as a drunk teen and told me to take his password and log into some online account to see a picture of his girlfriend. Something nutty. I was thinking the socalled teen wasn’t posing as a drunk teen but it was a sleepy teen I think. But an obvious set up to weed out anyone that would dare take someone’s password. I just wanted to clear the story up. So I do hope that type of nonsense isn’t allowed in There anymore where it is the stomping grounds of some tweeked idea of undercover stings being put on just normal and decent people in There. If I owned There I would ban these people that try and routinely come up with their set up evidence against others. I find it very strange behavior. They are getting some kind of a thrill trying to bait these good and decent avatar users into saying something that could get them banned. It tickles their dirty little fancy. So let us all enjoy ourselves in There living good and innocent avatar lives. Sweep unnecessary clutter we have obtained in life under the rug. Throw down a portazone and have a virtual bbq. Unban all the people that got caught up in the trap of some of these perverted undercover sting groups. They are the true losers. When they do this it makes them feel like Starsky and Hutch or Columbo. Lets not feed the fire to this group of weirdos. I say boot out obvious egregious troublemakers. When they go around being insanely vulgar and abusive boot them out in a heartbeat. We don’t need that type in There. But at the same time let us not be ban happy. And I think in the past some have been. So I would go back and take a thousand off the ban list. They deserve a second chance. People in real life get into some trouble in life and they get on probation or worse. But then they do their probation or time in jail and get out and our society says okay you are welcomed back. I hope you have learned your lesson and now show us you are good and decent and make something of yourself now. Why should There be any different? Why should There say NO you did wrong. You were vulgar once and we banned you. That is a ban for life? Give some of these people a break on a lifetime ban. Seriously consider it. Many were set up in a dirty way. Give them a break. Sara, your story does not seem truthful to be honest but maybe your afraid to explain all the detials and it’s making your story smell fishy.
So your saying you were set up by someone at There with a drunk or sleepy looking teen undercover agent to accept someone else’s password to login to a third party site to see a picture of his girlfriend? Was it a site like hotornot.com or twitter.com? You took the password and logged into the account and viewed the picture then you were ban from There for this or the other site? ‘hmm, Something about the way you tell your story smells all fishy.
Maybe if you explain it on a third party site like thumdar.com or the other Very Popular Site called> sothereforums.com and give more details someone will understand the true jist of your story. You start off your post stating “I told a story a few posts ago” that statement is making me think your not telling a truthful story or the whole story. Anyway go to one of the other sites and try to explain it to people so they can assess what is possibly truth from fiction and help you work through this situation. This is not the right place to get overly specific with all the gory details. Maybe that’s why your story seems fishy because you fear to post all the details. (((If your not 18 which I don’t think you are))) to be honest then I would just drop the issue online and stop discussing it on public sites. Discuss the issue with your parents in private rather than online. The only avatars I suspicion in there doing anything close to a sting operation would be the There Testers. But they don’t talk so I don’t think they’ll ever get caught in the sweeps.

PS One more thing. I can’t get over your diatribe post. I want to clarify this. I wasn’t set up. Listen closely. A fake sleepy teen that was on Duda or somewhere in a public area out of the blue tried giving me a password to check a picture of his girlfriend. I said no thanks. Then lectured that person never to give passwords out. Then baby boy blue went on his merrily way complimenting me on how I was right. And that was good advice. I said goodbye. He said goodbye.
Now I felt that this person was some undercover person that was checking people out to see if they would dare take a personal password from a young person for whatever reason. That was my idea and that is what I derived from this interaction. Plain and simple. And by what this person said at the end of how that was very good advice. Like that person realized hey this person is one of the good people. So he moved on to others.
And if you think my story is so far-fetched and fishy you live in another dimension. I hope you are questioned too. You might not pass the test. I pass everytime because I am an honorable Avatar citizen. I just wanted to put your persecuting diatribe reply to rest and make sure you weren’t going to have nightmares about avatar undercover talk. I know in your world that doesn’t happen. But I know it does because some woman told me she was doing it. So don’t be a fool.
Oh and yes sometimes a virtual world does this to weed out the weirdos. Lets say there was a rumor out there about you that said hey this guy named high flier is high and is acting strange. Then they will send someone over to check it out. I am all for that. Don’t get me wrong. But it is some of these women that took it too far and if a man spoke with a 17 year old girl in a friendly manner on Duda they might play their little virtual undercover game.

I don’t know why you want that image on the top of this blog replaced. I like that view. The blue sky. Beautiful green mountains. It will be nice to get away from it all and drive around some of those. Stay out of the riff-raff in There and rise to the level of the Avatar Gods. Above all the insane.
By the way what is your avatar name when you go into There? I am sure you have a few so you can find the trouble makers lol. A little undercover work. I remember some weird situation where someone in There was faking it like he was a drunk teen and asked me to check out an image of his girlfriend or something and he would give me a password to some account. I thought how stupid. It was an obvious set up to find someone that would take a password from somebody. I lectured him on trying to give passwords and turned him down. Though I thought it was some undercover There mother squad again weeding out the bad guys.
Please outlaw people like that Mike. It sickens me to know they run around There like undercover set up artists. It smells of a railroad and bad setups. It happened twice to me. Lets not do it that way. Fishy weird things of that nature. But let us just live good clean avatar lives. Loving every moment of it. And if we do know of some cursing clowns out there acting ulgar with an insane raunchy way about them disturbing everone in their path then we will send you a note. But that is all we need to do. Nothing more.
I am glad it is over 18 now. I like to know adults are in my company myself. Sorry for slowing you down. I am looking forward to signing up when you start rolling out the real There world. The full world not just the ThereIM. I am not familiar with it. I never heard of it until lately to be honest. But I saw some screenshots of it. It looks like two or three avatars can stand together and talk. I am not sure. I wonder why you couldn’t have at least kept that open instead of closing up shop for the past year. But I guess that costs money to keep running also.

Hey Michael, I saw a lot of silly esoteric requests on this blog. My request however is not. I think i speak for most members when i say we want more islands on there, either more islands or an extension/expansion of the islands that already exist. For example driving through the island of New Kansas gave me such a wonderful feeling of freedom but i’d get to the end of it in about 5 minutes from start to finish. For some reason i get the feeling that extending some of these islands will be one of the easiest improvements for there. Please consider this and reply if possible thank you.

What’s an “appropriate size” photo to use for your blog header image? Here’s 3 screenshots of my hood in There (I can crop/resize if needed); not sure if you’d “get” my humor, but my personal fave is the last one. It was a spot in my hood for Thereians who couldn’t afford to rent but constantly begged for a place to “borrow” or stay for the night. 😉 Anyways, I think it’s a very appropriate pic for us Thereians at the moment, since we’re technically homeless and waiting for There to reopen. 😉

Cool it’s like the 4th of July…my favorite holiday. I never knew it could be so colorful at Dune Valley. I always remembered it being a bit bane as far as colored graphics go. WOW! the huge yellow star is so cool. Whoa! who is the dev that made it? Hopefully they’ll come back to There and make more of them and in blue too! I’ve never seen one of those before.
This is not me but a buddy using someones 1 seater. While on this Dune Valley subject. Does anyone know if they ever had a 1 seater only race? I always wondered because maybe it would be hard to find enough of them at one time to have an actual race. I dono..justa wonderin. A great idea for an event anyway. I think I saw a registry someplace or maybe it was a There group for people who own them? Glad to see Dune Valley spruced up a bit lookin purdy.

Fantastic pics. You must have been an extremely busy person. You must have been bored to tears after There went floppy? I bet you were very sad and I bet your very glad it’s coming back especially considering the huge investment made… woweee I’d hate to even guess at what investment the zone owner has made after seeing those event pics. Did the zone owner also own all objects used for these events? I can’t even begin to imagine their inventory and they must have been meticulously organized.
Thanks for sharing all those pics. I will never think of the Dune Valley Zone the same way after seeing your pics. I always thought people just raced their buggy’s on the same track all day. I mean I know the gates could be changed around an all. Those events for sure took some major time to set up.
1 seater buggy owners race:
I still think my idea for a 1 seater buggy race would be funny especially if only the actual owners of them drove on the first race. Then you could have more races where they let top buggy drivers drive them and then anyone. For the owners race have some (BigWig) from There shooting paint balls at them about midway to get them all off course. You should also have an announcer clearly say the names of each 1 seater owner to give them notoriety and their starting positions. Have a raffle and dance party with live dj and of course cocktails. You can’t have a party without those you know. Some might even pay to see that event.

I was thinking an invisible version would work nice. Nooblets getting caught in one they didn’t even see before hand. lol I would be willing to sit on the sidelines and watch from a safe distance. But an invisible version could get anyone and easily be moved around inconspicuously. Also could be used to hide inside and fool the on-comers.

I must comment that BIG_EARL looks a lil out of place at cosmogirl as Iv only ever seen him at zeph. He seems so out of his domain. lol Wasn’t he a bummish character that slithered around zeph for a long time? What’s he doing with those rich cosmo metro snobs on their pretty green grass? He needs to get back in his sand pits. Although he does have a pink tag though so maybe he gets a few brownie points there from it. ‘hmm It’s gota be that pink tag…there’s just no way he could be a cosmochic magnet.

It is going to be so very hard to wait for the downloads for MAC… (I’ve gone MAC since the close). This means I may have to boot up my piece of junk to sign in to There. My old computer must be sat in a certain way and not bumped as the connection wires are unruly. It will be a huge pain in the rear to boot up the junk laptop to sign in to There.
I CANNOT wait to have to put up with that until There downloads are available for MAC! 🙂

Hello everyone. I know there.com had an option to choose 56K modem (Dial-up). Does that mean if I have dial up the new there.com should let me play it with my dial up internet connection? I currently have Wildblue 1.5MBPS sattalight interrnet with a 2 second delay time and a threshold. It’s eaither this or Dial up. I’m curious on if I need to keep my current internet and there.com work, get dial up for it to, or am I just screwed all around? This is kinda off topic, but I don’t know were else to ask. MW if you could get back to me ASAP so I know what I need to do.

Mr. Buggy, I feel for you. When I first got into the There Bata program I was on dial up with no way to get high speed internet. Here is what I did, (seriously!) I packed up all my stuff and moved to a new apartment that had high speed internet. It also put me closer to the university where I was teaching, so high speed internet came in handy when I started teaching web courses.
If that is not an option, then you will just have to wait and judge for yourself. How do other online action games work for you? My guess is that some things in THERE2 will work just fine (as before) but other things like buggy racing, buggy bashing and paintball may put you at a disadvantage. But you would work fine as an avatar in avatar buggy bowling.

I think it probably comes down to Will Harvey being the original founder of There.com, and then was the founder of IMVU. Some sort of way they paid for advertising, and claiming rights on words. Its weird how it works.

Concerning images BTW:
Why do IMVU Google adds always dominate anything that has to do with There? I’m not sure how or who controls the actual adds but it seems very odd to me. Someone at second life forums complained about them on second life pages some time ago and I noticed they rarely show up as often on second life related sites now. They’re on this blog and thumdars blog almost non stop and on other third party sites. Is someone targeting There related sites at IMVU or Google?
I assume when you sign up for these adds you select a category so your add is seen on similar sites but it seems targeted at There.com and extreme to me.
Just sayin; Maybe someone understands this or is expert on these adds and how they work? I’m not knowledgeable about them and that’s why I’m asking. Maybe There is not concerned about these adds that are ever present and they assume them to be fair or even healthy competition. I know IMVU has a lot of relation to There.com’s past but maybe someone is overly targeting There. If so those adds should get reported as targeting There.com. sites and third party sites. I know There is not sensitive about people mentioning other virtual worlds on their sites but when it comes to paid adds that’s another story Id think. Just plain ole bad business practice in my eyes and greedy of IMVU if There.com is really being targeted as I suspicion. I don’t see Burger King adds while I dine at McDonald’s or Walmart adds while I stroll through Target or their websites so why should There.com sites be littered with IMVU adds?
