I am not sure if you are able to respond to this yet, but I remember you told us that you’ve completed the Mac client for There. Do you have the requirements that you will need inorder to run There? In July, Apple is releasing there new OS, and I am thinking of upgrading my Mac. If I upgrade to the new operating system, will There software be compatible to the latest Mac version? Also, do you have any plans on making ThereIM a Mac version?

Just so everyone knows how much I like there ,I think 10 bux a month is a steal for THIS (There).I would still GLADLY pay the money just to get to play again even if i knew There was going to shut back down! ANYONE who produces a product as cool as THERE deserves to make a profit! It would be great to have Guaranties on everything in life. I’m sure We as customers would love to know There would never close. I’m sure Michael and Makena would love to know that all the time AND MONEY put into this product would not only break even but make a profit!I personally think,if There was a profit making venture in 2009 and there was money to run off with,,,,There would have never closed!!!.On my first month i will send 20 dollars for you (Michael) and your crew to get each of you a SUPPER BIG GULP!!! Yes this is a bit of a gamble to get There going again. But they are taking a chance on a new business model. Some are crying like babies about it acting like they can’t afford it when they go out and waste their money in a bar and spend 60 bucks in a night. Or buy other stupid things but for some reason since There was free once they think it isn’t worth the money or it is unfair. Well they tried it that way and in this multiple avatar worlds climate we live in it is tough to make it. There are many. Secondlife and I can list a few more. but I will leave them out because they aren’t worth speaking of in my opinion. Myself I am looking forward to having There back for a 10 spot a month. And if it falls again someday so-be-it. All I know is when it shut down I regretted not taking a lot more screenshots of some of my places and the good times I had. So I am going back in and going to take some screenshots doing a lot of things. All my places so I have a great collection I will always have for slideshows in the future. But this time it might just stay up and running for 20 more years.

ThereIM is a basic Instant Message interface (like AOL IM), nothing like normal There except for the people.

It is more like normal There than AOL IM or other Instant Message interfaces. It is a 3D interface that is like a blank There world where your avatar is stuck in a group chat with the other avatars logged in. You can type talk with chat bubbles, dance and other emotes, and check your inventory and change clothes.

The answer to “why” is mostly COPPA. By federal law, it is far more expensive to run a VW that allows people in under 18. In the past, the money spent by those under 18 did not cover the cost of the additional employees and whatever else was needed to comply with the law. Under-18s are also responsible for a disproportionate number of reversed charges, which adds up both in cash lost and problems with Visa and Mastercard.
So, basically, the poll indicated There should be able to make enough money to sustain itself as an 18+ only world. They were not able to come up with business model that allowed those under 18 in and still would turn a profit, or be worth the extra work.

There’s laws against minors being on virtual chat rooms, without moderation. Although, majority of the minors ARE going to use their parent’s credit cards. We would never know they’re minors without them admitting to, or acting as, a minor.

I don’t think the amount of people you see on here is a true reflection of people interested in playing there.com. If you carefully read the posts you’ll see a commonality of posts listing things like: “HEY MR. WILSON, THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP”, “WHY DO U HAVE TO BE 18 2 PLAY?!?!?”, ” WHAT’S THEREIM”, “YAY, IM GLAD I’ll BE GOING BACK TO MY HOME”. Most people take the news at it is, and are just patiently awaiting the game. I think the key indicator of influence behind Makena’s decision was the amount of people that filled out the survey based on referrals and out of response to the e-mail campaign they ran.

The thing is, There.com isn’t a new product that has just been placed on the market. In fact, it’s been around for almost a decade. Well the majority of forum readers, I would bet, are lurkers. I am sure MW has an IP logger to show every IP that shows up to read and not post. So don’t worry. Instead of suggesting advertizing, do it your self. If you want THERE to have a good second birth then email 100 of your friends and tell them how much fun entertainment can be had for only $10 a month.
In today’s world viral advertizing is best, so go tell your friends, everyone at work, everyone you meet in the grocery. Go to the movie theater and tell everyone in line that THERE is way more fun, more entertaining, and much cheaper. I want MW to spend all the money on development. We need to do the viral advertizing … so get set … get ready … it is almost time to go!

Viral advertising does work very well… except people are stubborn. Without visuals of what happens, they will just toss the idea out of the window. That’s why on movie trailers and such, they show what goes on in the movie. Otherwise people would just hear talk, and say, “Oh… that’s cool. -_-” And probably never even check it out.
On Bing and Google, you can place a banner, atleast giving a little preview. Also We can do our part, and LIKE the There.com Facebook page. Now that Bing has the friends suggestion thing.

It is so funny to me that you speak of telling friends; when I was in There.com I had so many AFK friends who could not understand or grasp the concept of having a ‘life’ or ‘living life’ in a virtual world. And RIGHT at the point I’d made a few- 3 of my friends- curious enough to sign up the announcement that There.com would close came in. I tried getting them beside me while I was signed in before There went to sleep but we could never coordinate.
The irony?
I now have a Macbook.
They are going to sign into There2 before I do!

And I am going to find out just exactly how patient I really am… Will I use my assedout old laptop that will keep zoning out on me because the wiring is all messed up to get into There2 or will I be able to wait to sign back up when There2 is ready for us Macs…

Less than 2 months after There closed, I started developing for Android, currently I have 6 different apps in the Market (not to plug, just to show I’m serious about it). I quickly learned that it is very hard not to underestimate how long it would take to get a release out when there is a lot of work still to be done with the potential for surprises. I’m sure it’s much harder for a new developer like myself with little experience and a weak development schedule. How I know it’s not just my problem is that I constantly see release estimates for software in development getting pushed back rather than on time and definitely not pulled forward (think Duke Nukem Forever), it also seems to be human nature to underestimate timelines for projects of any kind. The irresistible urge to actually give estimates is not only because people want to know it, but because developers are also anxious to release. I’m tempted to call it the “Can’t Wait Effect” or something.
Keep up the great work! I’m excited for There 2 as is everyone else, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s done when it’s done and delays indicate that it’ll be done right. Anyone who puts up a fuss has probably never done anything time-consuming for someone who wanted to know how long it would take.

From what I understand is that MW will only accept payment in the form of 7/11 Big Gulps (flavors vary day to day). They must still have unmelted ice to be recieved as a valid payment.

You caused me to choke on my home made test gulpie here after reading this. – I’m experimenting here on Big Gulps to see if i can make counterfeits. No fear, I’m using low cal sugar substitutes. One question though what flavors will he accept? How about bronze, silver, gold, or platinum flavors? At least we’ll get something for the 10 bucks and our teeth will be pretty at sign up. 😀 Maybe I’ll just take a bath in my Gulpie before I hand it over. So the Big Gulps is his idea to get the new shiny avatars he’s referring to. The truth is leaking out finally.

10 bucks is like going to the movies. Correction, it’s cheaper! Movie tickets are $11 and you only get 2 hrs of entertainment. However, if you decide to subscribe to There2 you will get an entire month of entertainment!

Kelayna I decided to keep all those soda cans I put out for recycling each week and turn them babies in myself! My family definitely drinks $5 sometimes $10 worth cash back each month. Or maybe you can come up with another way like keeping a jar by the washer and dryer for all of the change collected after each load. There has got to be a way! 5. Request restoration of your inventory. It should arrive in a day or so.

He basically said, he was paying half for your entertainment, while you paid such a little fee. He made no money off of us, infact he was dumping more money into There.com then we were. Take a look at the ‘There operating Costs’ page. Maybe you’ll be able to understand a little more.
If you can’t afford to pay with a credit card or whatever, how are you planning on buying the Ultimate Game card?

Just a lil bump in the road.. we’re excited but we also know this takes time. Just curious tho. You say if you might not make it, folks get a refund, which confuses me (thats normal) but, how is it anyone paid if nothing has happened to promt a payment? or did I miss something? I would of paid as well, and not asked for a refund for june.. geez………

don’t think they can expect payment till they can give something more concreate,,, like actually having there IM going. Not going to give them a hard time about not makeing the end of June dead line (if they don’t) that just the nature of the beast,,,, it happens but they shouldn’t charge till they have something

Are you seriously calling them liars? You must be a child. They are working hard trying to accomplish this. It isn’t easy with one engineer. If they more to help doing it they would be up and running already. But I am sure you’re just faking being upset. I am not joining until they have all of There rolled out myself. I am not wasting my time with There IM. Maybe for 5 bucks I would pay for that. It is only worth 10 bucks with the complete world in my opinion. But to each their own. I will be patient
