This is showing a real (test) Avatar logged into the Production World, in the middle of the Ocean.
This means we’be got a production cluster running, and we can log into it. ThereIM also works.
The rest of the week will be dedicated to finishing out the cluster, editing the terrain to remove sponsored islands, loading scenes, and the thousands of other little details.
Next week we’ll have our first ThereIM test customers in.

I think all the great updates are great thnx alot MW and i think everyone needs to just back off of England because you cant judge one person and say theyre all the same, im sure you wouldnt like it if we started callin names and making assumptions, besides we werent the only ones who were up to no good in there i heard alot of stories about bad americans trying to bring down the there system! But i have a question MW, will there still be Island Guides? And would users be able to still try out to become one or is that whole idea scrapped? Oh and will there be Greeters still as well? 🙂

Good news about the updating of the fingers and faces. Great. I wrote you a few months back and you told me you were working on the fingers because I specifically asked about them. And low and behold you are doing it. And the faces are being upated? I hope to a realistic look. That is where it should go. I always hated it when we dance in There and our avatars make this loony cartoon face. I want more realism myself. But I looked past that and still enjoyed There. And please don’t go with some big headed avatar concept like the other clowns do. That is so childish like that world is catering to the 4th graders of the world. I like my world for adults. Not looking childish. I am sure that is where you are going with this Michael Wilson. I know you are a smart man. Keep evolving your world of There. You are making it up to date technically pulling it out of the past and into the future!! WOW it will be interesting to go back in time to December 2003 when I first stepped foot into the world of There. It will be nice.

What is wrong logging in using your Facebook, MySpace, Twitter etc… accounts? Many virtual worlds are doing that now, and it seems to be great. I don’t see any issues with it.

Not sure if this has been covered or not, if so I apologize in advance.
From what I understand there will be no free membership in “there2”, which isn’t a problem to previous users who know what there getting already. But what about people seeking to be a therian? I would assume that the there community is interested in getting new people into there just as much as getting the old members back, but I’m not sure how many new members will just join having pay first and play second. I know I would not have paied for full membership had I not played the game before hand. I’m not trying to give a solution or a problem for that matter, just was something that was on my mind.

Think if it this way. You don’t eat food before buying it, or watch a movie at the theater before paying to see it. Same rule applies for There. It’s a very small risk you take, but at $10.00 a month to join There, thats about the same as eating out or going to the movie theater, and probably cheaper than such. Most everybody loves There, some don’t. To each his own!

I do understand the need for a free trial of some sort. If I hadn’t been able to try it free, I sincerely don’t believe I would have become a premium member at any time.
However, the immediate concern is whether there are enough former members willing to support There NOW.
MW has said a free trial or something to interest new members will be considered once There proves self sustaining enough with the current interest. This means it isn’t going to be looked at for a while yet but it’s not off the table.
They will have to develop a system that doesn’t allow people to use the trial system as a free replacement for being premium and a system that doesn’t allow people to use free trials to grief others.

Actually at most restaurants you don’t pay till after you eat. We used to put gas in our vehicles before paying for it and most stores let you try clothes on before you buy them. There was the risk that people would leave before paying, or hide clothes under what they wore in, but except for the gas, the benefit outwayed the risk.
I have no doubt that some sort of marketing trial tool will be in place if There stays online for long.

Yeah after I posted that I realized most restaurants you do not have to pay first, but some you do. While I do agree that some sort of limited time free trial would help a new member decide whether to pay or not, at the sametime if we paying members explained to anyone thinking of paying to join There all the benefits, and fun There has to offer, and have plenty of in world video’s of things you can do close to the “first” spawn points that would help also. To me, if there was a free trial I feel it should be a limited time of X amount of days. After which you have to either pay, or not pay, and move on. Problem with that is with griefing, Those that feel they just HAVE to would constantly make new limited time free trials. Unless there was someway of IP block using firewalls to prevent that from happening. Or perhaps disable chat function? You can see what There has to offer, however to “chat” and have all the other functions. You have to pay. In other words. They can see what we can say, they just cannot reply until they pay, they cannot leave a certain area such as the new welcome area until they pay. They can watch all the video’s to decide, but again for a limited time only. Just thowing some idea’s out there 🙂

I used to be addicted to there, couldn’t go one day without not loging in, and that’s why I don’t want to come back, it’ll be just like it was the first time. I’ll use it for a while, want to quit, then quit possibly for good. It’s much easier to just not make an account. I didn’t like being an addict.

Jimmy I’m sorry to hear I about your electronic addictions ! I know how you feel. People joke about them but actually they can be quite serious ! I have a nephew that spends most of his life on “WOW”! I did have a club on “There.com” which was an alternative to the “Addicted to There and I don’t care one”. It was “Addicted to There we care” Not many people showed up which I guess was a good thing in a way!
But as I struggle with electronic addictions myself, I do have some ideas and things that I do to help myself. I was a horticulture therapist in RL, so now getting off the pc and going out to pull weeds, taking care of my homing pigeons etc is a big help ! I know how hard it is to deal with these even with TV, I worked as a companion for an older lady once and got addicted to certain soaps as I pretty much was forced to sit and watch them with her.
When she died I went cold turkey on the soaps and got a job at a nursing home.Almost every room I went in to make beds had it on the TV and I got addicted again! I decided from that that we can’t depend on others people or situations to decide things for us, we have to make the choices for ourselves! How will I spend my time today? Make a schedule and make sure that it includes plenty of RL things! Then maybe schedule in 30 minutes to an hour of computer time if that is what you enjoy.Sorry to lose you from There.com however , we could really use you insight and experience and would love to have you in my club if and when I reopen it! I’m not sure how I can say this without being made fun of, but I was addicted to the point of wanting to end my own life to get rid of the addiction. Suicide is never the answer, but at the time it seemed like a good idea, because when I was on There, I had no self control whatsoever. I couldn’t/didn’t want to stop on my own, and when I did stop, I was afraid I would miss something important. If I ever do come back, it’ll probably end the very same way. I’m also sorry to hear about your addictions. It is nothing to make fun of and I certainly won’t. If I may offer an observation or two; (If you aren’t open to them, please feel free to ignore the rest of the post 🙂 )
First, awareness is always a good place to start when it comes to any addiction. Knowing where you’re at risk and being willing to make sacrifices to avoid them will take you far.
Whatever your decision as to being on There, the fact that you’re able to talk about it demonstrates your courage. I’ve heard that 95% of addicts never get as far as you have, so you’re elite. Congratulations and welcome to the next level!

I have heard some people say that spending time on There.com actually prevented their suicides. I know that more than once someone would show up at “Faith Cottage” and before they logged out I gave them a hotline number for suicide prevention. For some people There.com is a site where they can go for friendship and they know they are not alone! The important thing is that if you feel suicidal ,that you tell someone or seek help; please don’t be alone with these feelings!
The sad thing however is that when I contact any rehab center and ask about their electronic addiction program , they pretty much act like I’m crazy and should check myself in elsewhere. Well I was on the staff at a mental hospital and they allowed me to leave each day, so I guess they didn’t think I was that crazy! I guess that this type of addiction is just too new and people don’t know what to do about it.But thinking about sucicide can be triggered by many things , not just despair over feeling that we are waisting our life.
In many cases it is due to a chemical imbalance in the brain and should be treated as a serious medical condition! Please don’t ignore it anymore than you would ignore a heart attack! Agape’

I’m 99% positive I won’t be returning to there. The only way I would ever return is if someone else paid for my account as I am not allowed to spend any money for anything online. I do not/can not live on my own because I am intelectually disabled. When I had There (the original one) if I wanted to do something that required me to spend money for something in world, I ALWAYS had to ask permission first. This got really annoying for me after a while. Sure you could tell me to get a job, but I can’t, like I said I am intelectually disabled. As such, I’m on medicare. I can’t get a paying job because of this. So, it would likely be a while for me to come back, if I do come back.

If they are getting rid of coke island what about coca cola things in general. I have quite a bit of gear that I have spent good therebux on as well as mcr points on, and love. If I come back ( still trying to figure out finances) would like to know that my darling coca cola doggie is ready to be petted and I can still wear my clothes that I wore while helping promote coca cola with Greeter Lacey, Greeter Becky as well as all my fellow Island Guides.

I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure that I read somewhere that we would be able to keep our Coca-Cola, Scion, etc items. I think they are bulldozing CC Metro to the ground, though. I loved having Coke in-world but it seemed like they didn’t give a hoot about us when it came to putting new items on the rewards page.

we get to keep our coke and scion merchandise from my understanding.but the sponsered areas are going to be gone.such as Cosmo,Club Scion and Coke Island.not sure if there were any other sponsered areas in world.i usually just explored the open areas and hung out with friends in our nieghborhood.every now and then id venture to coke island for the hoverboard park.

The domain for my e-mail with There went away long ago (never bothered to update my profile). I definitely remember my password though (unless someone hacked my account!!) Only found out about there reopening because I had the occasional There withdrawal. Went to there.com and saw the news of the reopening… What a great surprise!!! I never did the survey so I suspect I’ll only be let in when the gates are open wide. Not a problem though. Looking forward to that day!

I asked the Linux client question on another post and got no answer. It would be nice if the client at least ran under WINE or Crossover. The only reason I switched back to Windows from Ubuntu is because There is coming back.

There are a lot of things you can use your There beta disc for other than a coaster, such as you can turn it in to a clock, picture frame, Christmas ornament, a bowl, a disco ball if you have several, etc etc.

Yes, that was one of the many great things about There, that the client ran well on the most basic of equipment. My wife has a celeron chipped laptop and we could still spend time logged into There together because it ran almost as well on her laptop as my desktop machine. Hopefully There2 will be just as forgiving toward older and less powerful equipment.

Your comments about SL might be right, IDK I just know that my shoes always went on backwards, and on trying to sit on chair , I would usually end up on the back of it. I thought that the inventories were very confusing and on teleporting places , I would sometimes, very embarassingly, arrive before my clothes! you couldn’t really go many places without running into “warning orbs” everywhere that would evict you! I just never felt welcome.:( Some people like it however I suppose, and it is their choice.
As far as the other place you mentioned , although the forums are up , the world isnt open yet! So IDK how you can say “it sucks”. I would like to see what they have to offer so I can see for my self how good or bad it will be.I think what we need is a “United Nations” of virtual worlds, or “virtual ambassadors”. Agape’

My point is the administrators shouldn’t be banning people just because they might happen to like other services so far I have heard some outrageous stories from said services when all there running is a sl clone service… if I didn’t like sl I won’t like that… just tired of people tip towing around jerks running a vw from their basement in the off chance that it gets popular. I’m really curious to see how you guys can deal with non-employee avatars that don’t look like newbies, whom have a moderate inventory of things. I’d be really curious how you guys will deal with avis with HUGE inventorys (mine is big) and how well you can recover them. Though the bulk of my inventory are those old “class T-shirts” we used to hand out back years ago. Though I wouldn’t mind if THOSE items were NOT restored at first, and then down the road if there’s a need for them, we can get them off the backups.

This news has made me very happy indeed and at last I will be home from home, I’m so excited as is my Thereian lady friend Bobbi62. We both sorta started in the same month in 2006 and soon became firm virtual friends, we both think we know what Michael Wilson is on about on the last bit of the update messege. Bobbi62 and myself had a home on Aurora Island and we both are looking forward to having it back again, I’m sure we are going to be at the back of the line for going into the world but we can wait as we have been all numbered and picked I’m sure for our gradule return to our home from home world. On a colour name tag thing I’m more than happy with my colour name tag which was Tan and would’nt change that colour name tag for any thing and I am looking forward to wearing my Thereian games outfit once I’m back in world and waving the Tan flag.

Stylemaker. I’ve noticed that the avatars on There.com are much more detailed now, skin and shadow wise. Will the templates in stylemaker and skins in world be changed/ are the outfits myself and others have made while There was gone in need of some mending when There comes back, or are they safe? I’m really excited and have been developing like crazy, just wanna know if I should tone it down or keep up the pace

Thanks for the great update, MW!! I’m getting so excited — am on pins and needles!! Looking forward to flying my plane all over world once again, and riding my buggy in the CCR, and my TUV in the Ridge Runners events (almost forgot those!)
Umm…I think I can understand the change in the fingers, but the face? Hopefully when I wake up in world (or in ThereIM) I shall look like my old There Self!!! 🙂 I’m looking forward to start designing again — I’ve even looked in my old files from 2010 and found I may even have an outfit that was just about finished along with a bike and hoverbuggy!! I do hope JinXplorer will be activated at about the same time we developers once again start offering our desigins. Oh, Glorious Days are almost here again!!

If the fingers change will the mapping on the hands change? A lot of us have painted rings and details on the tiny hand area on the style maker tops templates. It would suck to lose that detail.
Can you tell us how the fingers will change or is it too early to say?

AnOldDeveloper, this is one reason why I try to avoid buying any tops with fingers or rings drawn on the hands, in case our avies ever got 4 finger and a thumb on each hand.

So excited, when I first started playing there I was 13 that was over 6&1/2 years ago… I think it’s safe to say That I grew uP with there, and I can’t explain how happy it makes me to have it back. I have so many amazing memories, and can only expect to create more. It’s honestly so hard to beleive what an impact this game has made on my life, ( if you can even call it a game ) I think the biggest thing there has done is set me on the path of my current endeavor in life, when I learnt about the developer program I was so pumped to start making clothes for me and my friends to wear, once I started Doing that I realized how much I loved the feeling of seeing someone where what I made, now 5 years later I’m running my own clothing company where i have my brand sold in 5 different malls in new England, and my own we store of course… And when people ask me whatdrove me to clothing. It’s hard to tell them a game, but it’s the truth, so thank you Michael Wilson, and everyone else whose helped me along the way and everyone who makes there run!

Oh no please dont remove coke island!! I agree some coke related items that are directly related to Coke have to be removed like the Coke store or the Coke cantina but removing the entire island would be a crying shame. For example you can add land to make it look like a variation of Aurora island or reduce mass to make it look like a slightly different Motu Motu. Candler Park was one of my favorite places on There and it would seriously damage my in world experience if it vanished. could you please look into this?

So is it the plan to leave the multi colored buildings which made, or revert it back to the way Tiki Cove Plaza used to look before it was changed? I’m not sure but I think there was a kid across the pond that engaged in several hacking adventures with There.com. If its the same kid I’m thinking of, he had engaged in several “denial of service” attacks to several members of there.com. He was using a program that tried to sign in the targeted members several times a second. He couldn’t get into the accounts due to not being able to guess the passwords. It did however cause people not to be able to sign into their accounts. There had a “3 tries then wait 15 minutes” thing on the log in. After 3 tries if you didn’t type the correct password your account got “put on hold” for 15 minutes.
I’m probably wrong but I seem to remember this kid being from the UK.

The guy I’m thinking of wasn’t named Daniel. Don’t want to mention the guys avie name to avoid any personal disputes with mutual friends we have in game. This guy may have been a pain but some of our friends we shared were awesome.

I can’t imagine why you would get banned… Thats weird! I got a temp ban before for verbally telling a helper what word a griefer was using to harass Melissa. I also got a temp ban for a PAZ placement near a landing zone…Guess I deserved that one lol! I had it there to promote and allow a teleport to metro. 🙂
