I’m glad I use Googlemail instead of Hotmail, I went onto my old hotmail to see what is happening and well I think my account is spamtastic!

I use an AOL account that I’ve had for well over a decade now. Luckily it’s what I registered my There account with and all my e-mails from There went to it. Seeing the screenshots of people opening There Central got my heart pumping the other day.

Rats! False alarm again! LOL, this time I ended up clicking on a Pet Medication E-mail that had a title of “Your Reactivation E-mail”… I seriously need to start looking at e-mail senders… at least I ACTUALLY have a dog so the e-mail itself could still prove to be useful; but I think I’m just too amped for There to come back. :p

I still vividly remember the tiny article that first brought There to my attention back in january of 2003. It might have even been in a paper publication like Time, or at least a non-tech online news source. I promptly told my wife and we both signed up for the beta, but I believe back then they had so many male applicants that she got in right away while I had to wait until march, and so my first experience of There was over someone’s shoulder, so this phase is doubly nostalgic. I could never let myself believe There was gone for good, but for so many months it seemed hopeless, so this current phase is certainly generating a mix of apprehension and anticipation, though every day shifts the balance towards the latter. It will certainly be great to one day be back There.

I always knew for a fact in my mind they’d return. They put something in the statement about why they closed that told me they’d regroup and return. Something about they still believe in There. With the economy being bad here in the states, more people are actually spending money in virtual worlds. It’s a cheaper form of entertainment.

I’ve been on There.com since I was about 13/14 I think. It’s kind of funny that I’m 19 now. I think what made There.com really enjoyable for me were the people. I don’t think I’ve went on There.com for any other reason than the social aspect.
I see a few familiar faces, though they probably don’t remember me. I was never really in with the young crowd (as in minors) so I’d usually end up sitting in Zephyr because all the juicy gossip/drama seemed to happen there. 😛 I always just ‘observed’! I’m kind of excited that it’s back, weee! I’m also of age so I can actually pay to play it, and I also have a source of income so maybe I will be able to create more of a presence in the game. However, I always did love being the one on the sidelines that just sat and watched everyone and everything that was happening.
Oh and those are awesome pics – the 2nd one reminds me of a place in There.com I used to play spades at. it also reminds me of like, something that you’d see in Jurassic Park.

Above, if I had gotten the image to work right (‘doh), was a picture of my father from 2004 at this computer playing on a vehicle in There.com
My father passed away early this morning, he was ninety three years old. He started playing There.com during the beta period in 2003. My father and I had a lot of fun driving around in his dune buggy and riding hoverbaords around Ootay together. Since we lived a few hundred miles apart it was a great way to do something together. He also came to each and every movie premier I hosted from Loose Yourself in There up until the gala premier of Mission: Slightly Difficult.
He continued to play until 2006 at which point he started having difficulty being able to log on to There.com. Even though he was no longer able to be in There.com he watched each and every one of the There.com movies I released over the years, and whenever I called on the phone he would always asked if I was in There.com.
I wanted to extend a very personal thank you to Michael Wilson and the wonderful staff members at Makena Technologies for allowing him to be an early guinea pig tester and allowing him to see his There.com avatar again. The last time I showed him his avatar his face lit up and he wanted me to show the laptop screen to everyone in the room at the time. Though he did not live long enough to log back into the world itself, you and your staff brought a big smile to his face and helped to lighten his heart.

It really pisses me off when I see some uninformed boob attacks MW and There. And I don’t blame you, MW, for ‘laying into them’ when they deserve it. But I think that even those who come on here and trash There, are secretly trying to justify their decision not to come back. The lure of There is strong even in those people and I would be willing to bet that they will STILL come to There. A. As we said, we currently anticipate that ThereIM will be made available by the end of June.
although I love to sift through 2000 pointless and non related once every 3 days or so to get an update.. It starting to get a little boring.
Sorry, I am an american in 2011. I like to have my info quicker.. I understand that it takes time to get things up and running. However sifting for relevance it makes it hard when I just want the facts. I wouldn’t have mentioned it if there wasn’t a tab for it. 🙂

Hey everyone!
I’m just checking in to say hi, and to tell all the new GP congrats! I will hopefull be able to hop on the IM later tonight, I have had a lot going on lately keeping me busy (you know what they say about idle minds 🙂 ) so I have not been able to log in for a min.
I figured while I was here I would bring a few smile to peoples faces with a pic from when There was open befor, and a new IM video from a couple of nights ago!
This pic is from 07 when I started building my sky paz community! I was about half way through building it when I took this!
And here is part 3 of the GP’s in the IM!
I’m not sure why they are not in 720P, I encoded it to be…
I plan to document the whole re-opening so that even those who haven’t gat the word that There is coming back will be able to enjoy the experience!
I can’t wait to see the new faces in the IM later tonight!

RE: All you ones with invites………….I expect this thing to be bug free by the time I get in. Got it?! I was in the first beta, and I did my job. You better be doing yours.
I never remember There being bug free, the bugs were half of the fun playing There. Like when something happen that was not supposed to happen (like 1 time I teleported and my Avie turned completely black) We all laughed so hard. But when I got something new and i could not use it because There said it still belonged to someone els and I had to get help from There to get it fixed before I could use it. That was not fun. But a bug free There, Now that I would have to see!

This is most amazing thing. it’s nice to see There IM up and running. i hope by the next month There IM is fully fixed and working, then we can move on to tackle the Biggest Challenge: The There World. Michael, i wish you the Best on reviving and reactiving There world in next one more month or more.

Yanno … I can think of one person that should get an automatic GP invite.
Someone who’s been there for the community and worked his ass off for all of us, both before There closed and after.
Someone who has kept cohesion to our motley group of Thereians and given us a place to be via his forums when we were all adrift.
Someone with a HUGE heart and soul.

I would love to be invited too, But more than willing to wait. As much as I’d Love to return to There , it won’t mean as much unless Joselyn is invited as well. We met first time in There….then a month and some change later we met IRL,moved in together less than 6 weeks later…8 months later married..march 2005 had first little girl …june 2007 second little girl was born and now both are starting school…We are a There.com family 🙂

Remember everyone, if you have a Mac you can always install Bootcamp or Parallels Desktop to run There if you become a GP or when the world opens fully. And then we can all enjoy regardless of OS 😀

This is so exciting. I have been reminiscing by watching Thereian videos on YouTube. I realize how much I just miss the sounds of There from the jetpacks, to the hoverbikes to the buggies. hi new GP’s, feel free to add me once your registered 🙂 Been a trip, being in ThereIM, still a few lil bumps. Some have been in for 2 days and still have no clothing inventory. Pretty sure today they will see them in gear 🙂 We’re Limited as to what we can change into, mostly THERE designed items, Coke, and Scion, and Island Guide clothing. But hey, that’s ok too 🙂 the chats run smoothly, as you can see by some posting screenshots and video 🙂
Alot are posting info in other places, either FB, Therian Community or Jordy’s There forums , and Thumdar 🙂 and many more places.. which I will do later as well! Hope to see you all soon 🙂

oh my gosh Ant! Without the brains of the people behind the scenes, it never would of happened. Most of what I did was all my fault, rofl.. yeah, Intructions were clear, rofl but my head was fogged. This is when I felt AGE coming on.. so dumb when it comes to computer things. I can only thank all of you and those at makena for having the paitence with me you all had. Got all registered late last night, everything went totally smooth! I am such a newb re-learning how to use There IM ( I am so used to talking in game) all the emotes will be fun to re-learn also. My stuff hasn’t caught up to me yet but I hear that takes a few days, but everything else is fine and I am excited for the day it gets released to everyone!

The reason why is because the avie they want you to use is attached to the email that you are using here. You won’t be stuck with it when There ( the world) opens. Just activate the one they want you to use now for testing, and when the world opens; go back to Wolf.

If TreGhost was never used on There before it closed, how could they send you an email? You would have no Password or secret question/answer.
Your only hope is to use one of the same avatar names HERE that you did on There, prior to its closing in 2010.

Just my email I was using here wasn’t the one for it, I was under the impression he was just gonna email people through the blog then get their There info, didn’t realize we needed to be using our email linked to our avatar till I read certain blogs. But I think I’ve figured it out and fixed my email here to match and even now fixing to make my name here exactly as my avatar 2. But yes careful, I’m not asking to be invited by any means. It’s funny how I have been a member of there since 04 and never even realized there IM existed lol I was an active member as well..So how could I not know about this? ;o
Seems like a completely different type of IM to what you would usually see, example (MSN, Yahoo, AIM) Thanks for the video updates guys, It gives a story on the progress updates without MW having to give reiterate or constantly update blogs. So thank you to those updating.

Why is Lady_Tigrane’s name so familiar? Did you used to do a hell of a lot of buggy racing? I have a feeling you’re one of the first people I spoke to on there when I joined way back when.
Just discovered this blog and the There reopening and I must say that I’m looking forward to trying There out again. Tried SL and it’s slow and boring and messy. Best thing about There was the order of things.

I agree that SL just isn’t the same, There has its own charm that can’t be matched… I tried out Blue Mars and it was like replacing cocaine with powdered sugar.

As to MW’s great photos … I’m happy I live 4000 miles even further wsw than Hawaii. The pics sort of resemble my home view.
The sea here is a little lighter green, sand whiter, tho.
A couple of questions … as to V V’s vids, we used to have an option where all the avies could copy the emotes and dancing of
a leader. Is that still an option?
Also. it would be great if V V / Francis7 rebuilt Lagoland to its former self, even if it meant a subsidy from There. The place was a first of its kind,
the creativity and design were genius. It was as good as anything There built and was an inspiration to all of us “Realistic” hood owners, like Ant with Arrowwood.
Hopefully it will come back and even grow into There’s future.
Last … I know this has been asked before, but I for one will pay whatever is deemed necessary by There, but when the hundreds of thousands of new members flow
into There in the future, will there possibly be a price reduc tion?
Also, will there be any kind of incentive to pay 6mos or a year in advance, such as a 13th mo. free, or a months worth of tbux? This would enhance There’s startup, a
large cash flow opening.

I was experimenting with Ubuntu for a while. But, there are many applications that do not support it. Unless you bought a PC that came pre-loaded with Linux, and don’t have the money to by a Windows license, stick with Windows.
Even with a Virtual PC, you would need a license to have a copy of windows installed. Only other option would be to try Wine. IMO, it isn’t worth the trouble unless you are really dependent on Linux.

I really enjoy watching the facebook pages “ThereIM” and “The Thereian Community” go all out with responses until There opens to the public once again.
Seeing how crazy some of you are (not inclusive to our crazy CEO who happens to take awesome pictures – I can’t call him crazy or I go to the back of the line!) makes it all worth while and I know There will be fun. The community is what made this game. I got my money ready for Therebucks and the subscription. Are you ready?
I hope MW will come around sometime to stroll his creations (aka There itself) – I hate a company that doesn’t check on its user base.

I dunno. I’ve heard from other Virtual World CEOs that it’s unprofessional to show up in your own companies product like a celebrity.
Instead, I’m going to do something more professional, like show up as an animal, like say a Kangaroo, or some character in a fictional book from the 50s, or a character from an Edgar Rice Burroughs science fiction novel. I think that’s much more appropriate, right?

Say he charges $20 a month. What’s 20 equal to that you totally waste money on every month? A dvd, one third of a video game lol, sodas, junk food, a dub sack, the list goes on and on. The idea is for the membership fee to cover “There” overhead. Then the tbucks sold can become a profit along with sponsors.If he gave us all so many tbucks for free with the membership, imagine the possible income lost to it. On another note MW, I was wondering about something. I’ve got quite a few new people wanting to try There out when it reopens. Is it in anyway possible to do some sort of rewards program for every user we refer who stays active so many months? If not it’s kewl, I’m bringing friends cause I want them around still when I won’t be returning to hell.com and want them to see the experience for themselves. I resigned as a moderator and have renamed my doggie “there.comREOPENSsoon” I’d so post a screen of me advertising on there but not sure how to post it here.

Wow, someone posted this wordpress on facebook for a There.com event where thousands of us are dying to attend the first day there.com makes a return, and I’ve been reading the posts and the comments and I do have to say that I like the fact that MW is going over to a Cloud. One thing that struck me interesting is the fact that There.com will now be 18+ when before most of their userbase was teenagers. Thats a bonus for some people since there will be less chance of other users running around screaming at the top of their lungs on voice. Also, brings in the possibility of having more mature clothing, items, and furniture. One thing I didnt quit get was about the monthly member ship and if it was required just to be able to login to There.com’s viewer or what. Since when I played There.com in the past, I had a job in RL and was able to afford things in game and now having no job I wouldnt be able to afford a required membership plan. So… everything looks promising from what I can see. Cant wait for the game to open to everyone so I can hopefully get my account back because I miss my dog and my hoverboard hehehe, but if I have to pay to play, then I guess I’ll be waiting alot longer than everyone else.

MW had to cut costs and make it 18+ to be able to reopen There.
Loads of costs involved in babysitting some of the younger members of There, prior to closing.
He moved to Cloud to reduce costs from server based game and to more localize it for all of us.
He then did a survey to decide if there was a support base still remaining to pay the costs of the new There.
It might have changed in the last couple of weeks but when I got my invite to be a GP, the monthly cost was quoted as no more than $15 a month.At $15 a month, that only amounts to $180 a year.
Pretty cheap considering what is available in game for everyone.
I’m retired and will gladly pay that amount every year!
There just ain’t nuttin better going on, out there.

I did as I promised and captured some video within the IM….Bad part is, the crappy screen recorder (CamStudio) I used has known issues if you record past 2gb! Well I recorded for almost 1 hour and all I could recover from it was a video that is a little over 1 min.
You would not believe the renaming of file extensions and use of a raw video recover program and headache I had to go through just to give you guys this much!
P.S. This brought me to the decision to fork out the 37 dollars to buy the full version of Fraps so that next time I can choose which part of the video I want to add here! lol

Totally with you on that Will.
It took me a while after being accepted before I could tweak my system to be capable of running There (I was the wrong gender to qualify for the free video card! heh).
Of course, after I finally got in someone said ‘oh, your other video card would have worked, you just needed to set this flag..’ Bummer!
It’s fun to watch and remember the successes and frustrations the GP are experiencing.

I like the pics! I got the chance to visit Hawaii one time, only Oahu, but we went to several beaches that had alot of the lava on them. Had to wear slides (flipflops, sandals) because that stuff is Sharp! Saw many different things I had not seen before, including Sea Cucumbers. I cant believe ppl eat those things….UGH!

GP IMAKOS here,
Ok got logged into THEREIM and about cried like a baby. I was so happy to see all the familar faces , at first when I got in I was looking rather newbish..But that all changed in a matter of minutes…I began to see My inventory load and it was in my opinion rather fast. I did spend most of my time testing the emotes to see what worked and what didn’t.. all the basic emotes work well .. everything was very smooth.. some minor bumps but those issues were on my end.. for example.. I had the Comodo firewall up and it blocked me from Entering the ThereIM.. so I needed to adjust it to login.. I Looked over all of my old Inventory and was very happy to see my kimono wasn’t wrinkled 😛 and my Japanese Hair doo wasn’t flat and the rest is history.
Thank you Samsyn, and Michael Wilson bringing us home.

The way I see it, most of his responses are somewhere between funny and hysterical.
Put another way, the more ridiculous the question, the funnier the response.

Jimony & Racesmart: I don’t know if it was on my end, or if the server that handels the IM shut down for the night, but I got DC”d and could not log back in.
I was just about to get another screen shot for the community to see too!
I’ll hunt for a screen recorder tomorrow, or just get the trial of fraps (until I can buy the full version) so I can keep people up to date with everything. 🙂
I have only used the IM 2 times so far, and besides Racesmart having trouble talking while in group chat (which was fixed after rebooting) it looks like the team (MW, SamSyn, and of corse Bruce) have done a solid job!
Stay patient everyone and when you finally get to log in you will see “the juice was worth the squeeze”!

When I get that itch, I have no other choice than to violate some segments! I am seeking help at the moment at the VA (Violators Anonymous), but I just cant seem to get the 42 step program to work for me!
I have found an alternitave to curb my addiction, but it is just trading one habit for another…cycle redundancies! I know its not much better, but at least I’m trying! 🙂

As GP update, I was back on for a few minutes today. It ran for me for about a half-hour and then crashed again. It has some work to go to be stabilized, I’d say, but it is good to be There IM’ing. My clothes inventory showed up today, one day after logging on for first time.
Way to go, ThereTeam. I am glad of the work you are doing.

It was great to meet with the other GP’s in ThereIM. I now have 8 buddies. It is great to be back. We all did alot of emotes to get re-aquanted with them.
Francis_7 tried to do a video of us emoting but after several attempts they failed. Then we got a message that ThereIm will be down for 150 minutes.
It was awsome to be there. I figured out the IM tool bar during this time. All seems to be going well. Thanks Michael, Samsyn, Bruce and all my fellow
GP’s.

LOL, no, I received an invitation to test with a mule avie that I didn’t realise must have been linked to the email address I had previously been posting here with. I was hoping it could be switched to the email address I am now using, and goes with the “jimony” avie. I don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth, and will test with the avie you invited if I must, but I think it is a female.

Hay Mr. Wilson Great Pics! Not so sure about the squid. I asked you one time about how to get logged into there when I don’t remember the name and password and no longer have the email to my account. You copied some things from the Q and A page and the last one said (A. Then it’s going to be very hard for us to help you, since it’s going to be hard for you to give us information which someone else acquainted with you could provide. It may be possible to help you, but we’ll charge you a significant fee for the time to do the research, and it’s not clear we’ll be able to help you.) Is there away I can start finding out if I can get my account back if I pay the fee for the time to do the research? I just don’t know where to start and I really want my there account back so I can go there when it comes online for us to log in. I miss my buddies! When I first played there I was a jerk, then I got sound and heard the people then it all become so real to me. Sound changed the everything as I realized how real the people were and then it was not a game to me no more. (I never played any other online game before) I fell in love with there and all my new friends! I cant count how many times I fell asleep at the computer playing there all night and getting kicked off early in the morning when there shut down for maintenance. I became addicted to there and all I did was want to play 24 hrs a day I was even playing in my sleep, lol.Then I realized I needed a break so I stopped playing for a long time and that’s when I forgot the password and changed my email address without thinking about there. I don’t care about my inventory I just want my there friends back and that’s why I need my old account back for the buddies list. Even if I only get to talk to a few buddies it will be all worth it! justagreatguy, there are a few issues regarding getting your account back right now:
1. Makena has stated their goal at the moment is getting to world working solidly before opening up the doors to everyone.
2. Unless your selected as a GP, they are not likely to spend the time to help you recover your account yet.
3. Your message quite likely sent you to the back of the line anyway (asking to be let in)
4. You ARE asking them to fix something (your account)
..
..
X. Whatever else is on Makena’s list of top priorities
X+1. Once they are able to get to a point to help those unable to recover their accounts normally, what you don’t seem to understand from the previous discussions/response on this situation is: Unless you can provide some solid evidence that YOU are the real owner of the account, you’ll not be able to recover the account because you could be someone pretending to be the account owner.
Some things to think about that MIGHT work:
1. You set a secret phrase and can answer the question
2. Knowing the original email address (and being able RE-REGISTER the email) [You did use a real email address right?]
3. Paid for premium or purchased ThereBucks (From Makena directly, not a third party reseller) and know the address on file [Makena may consider this to not be enough since others could know your real address]
4. Created a billing password (and remember that one)
5. Have the same IP Address you had last year (note: this is very unlikely unless you have a static ip address [and you know what that means])
6. Did you have a profile picture posted? Do you still have access to the URL that you posted it on?
6. Regardless of what it might cost to do 1-6, anything else is likely to be TEDIOUS and EXPENSIVE.
Depending on how it works, you might have to sign some kind of notarized document that has real legal teeth to it in the event your actually very clever and lying.
Don’t forget, unless your buddies can(and do) also recover THEIR accounts, they won’t show up on your buddy list.
Either way. Good luck!
But definitely PLEASE BE PATIENT
We all want them to help us get back online. They are not likely to answer this specific type of request at this time since they basically already answered. And you should be careful about posting your email address online, even if you have a perfect spam filtering. 🙂

Just because you asked. I started playing there a long time ago so I have trouble remembering that far back, lol.
When I first starting playing There I had Mediacom cable internet and I think I was using the email that came with the cable internet that ended in MCHSI.com (when I first started for free) So it was justagreatguy@mchsi.com. Well then I switched to DSL and lost that email. Then I used justagreatguy@gmail.com and I think that was the email I was using when I paid for my There account so I could have sound. I used justagreatguy@gmail for the longest time! But for some reason I changed the email and password then shortly after I stopped playing There for a long, sold most of my things in There auctions (I needed a break and was tired of playing). Well anyway after months of not playing I wanted to play again but forgot what email I changed it to and don’t remember the password I used. I tried the recover the password and the question but I need to know what email I had to make it all work.

Then I moved and then I payed for There.com with a Pre-Paid credit card and I can also give you that address to.

So I was curious as to where Makena technologies was located, where Samsyn and Bruce do all there fancy work, and I Thought they were located in Long Beach, but It makes no sense for MW to be in Hawaii when his company is Makena. So I typed in makena.com, some hormone for pregnant ladies site, then makenatechnologies.com. It took me to there.com, which I didn’t understand. These shots have darker sand where the other shot was much lighter sand. Maybe it’s just time of day or direction your facing making the colors of the sand. Clouds are great and they appear very low in the sky. Not sure if they really were low in the sky or camera settings. They remind me of hermit beach somewhat. lol I bet there’s a few of those on these beaches. Very cool shots and fun to look at all the details. I’m more use to seeing eastern beaches so it’s fun to see some west coast beach.

I have 3 pairs of these living in my backyard and they are humm all over the place. They have total disregard for your personal space when going for their sugar fixes.
I think they even get drunk on the sugar. Iv seen some of them swaying and swaggering around like they are drunk.

Thank you RockinWolfman, Yea I braved 100 degree heat to get those shots. I think the temp was right at 100. I originally went outside to take photos of the badly burnt grass everywhere because out of the blue here came a storm and it dumped some badly needed rain on us and you can see the rain droplets on things in the shots. This was just after the very quick storm stopped and that little guy came right at me along with others. They were chasing and fighting each other right over my head and buzzing around me. Actually one even sat right on my shoulder for a moment. I stood very still for a long time though to get those armature shots. It’s a Sony cyber-shot I keep near the window just for the purpose of shooting lots of wild life I see some around my backyard.
The humidity was just crazy. You can see some of the burnt grass in the background. Now a few days later it’s much worse. No green except in a few shady areas. All the grass around here is deadest Iv ever seen here and beginning to get this strange orange hue on it. I guess that’s when the bulbs of the grass are using their last bit of energy to survive. Those hummingbirds where really thirsty and excited from the rain storm. I saw many animals come out of hiding right after the storm to experience the rain. Even raccoon came out for a few to drink up some fresh rain water right in the middle of the day. We also had a huge rainbow at the same time but my picture didn’t come out good. 😦

Was that your official word on pricing or is it still ‘at least’ $10.00 per month?

For the record, I am surprised you even answered that question; I wasn’t clear how it could be one or the other since you could charge ten dollars a month and also provide a little trial to see what passed (sic) accounts we wnat to start up at the same time simply by charging for the trial.

PPL never get this part, the at least implies it can be 100(though it won’t) I’m thinking probably around twenty or so with a future discount if you pay yearly possibly. Free trials sadly will not effect us old users of there, why should they? We know what it’s like. They will be used to bring in new users later on when he puts them in effect, if he does.

I have been places in THERE that reminds me of these kinds of places. I guess that is why I love being in THERE so much. I see a day when THERE will be like these pictures. Tech is moving so fast to the point I can imagine wearing a helmet and actually be inside of THERE like a Holo-suite on Star Trek! Maybe even in my lifetime!
