Right now, our biggest issue is convincing the various email services (hotmail, gmail, aol, yahoo, and excite, for example) that we’re NOT SPAM, which means Bruce and SamSyn are tweaking things called “SPF records” which help those folks tell we’re not sending you invitations to license Oil Wells or cures for baldness.
This isn’t to do with the There software itself, it’s just a function of how the ‘net has gotten more protective of it’s users (which is a good thing) and we have to make sure we’re working within the rules.

IF the email issue isn’t 100% solved for everyone, use yahoo or a server with their capabilities. You can add there’s email addy to your contacts and any emails sent to you from that contact shows on the front page of your email before you even see the list of emails. So you ppl mean to tell me he could have sent me an invite and my blasted AOL would have eaten it alive while it sends me damn chain letters and “help us claim” 10 million dollar emails for a small fee lol

That the major email services treat ThereMail as spam is a pre-existing problem from the There.com legacy days. Surely folks out there remember calling ThereMail “WhereMail”? It is not as simple as a function call to sendmail() anymore. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant utility for a more civilized age.

Well in the years playing on there.com. i did get a LOT of “automated emails” any time something happened in-world that i was some how involved with. I had a torrent of ThereMails before bit torrents existed (i think, not sure on dates). So all of that theremail was likely labeled as spam by thousands of users, and eventually got placed on spam filters around the net.

Is anyone having a problem with windows? I keep getting an error message saying There Client Program has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. Have not got a solution. 😦

I would try a simple reboot. If that doesn’t work, you can check your disk for Errors (run checkdisk) or try reinstalling the client.

You mentioned Sonny’s Low Rider in your vid. I remember a few years ago Sonny loaned it to me for awhile. It was the coolest! It was so stable — a low center of gravity — and fast! I also at about the same time was loaned one of the rare one-seaters by a friend. So I wound up having two of the most rare buggie in my pocket for awhile! Wow!
I remember Sonny told me that after he had made his low-rider (don’t remember it being a”frogger” — the paint job wasn’t too great), he had stupidly destroyed the files — he had thought it was an accident that wasn’t worth keeping! Can you imagine if he had gone ahead and made more? Afterwards, when he realized what he had done, he really regretted it!

He (or whoever had them on display) had a sign in front of the buggy that said: “Low rider Frog buggy”. It is definately the most stable buggy I had ever drove! I had it in my posession for about 2 hours before I had put it back at the PaZ I *cough* borrowed it from. The whole time I drove it, I don’t think I was able to flip it…I even drove it at full speed in the sides of hills in Dune Valley.
That sucks that he deleted the files! It would have been awesome to repeint that model! It was blue with “mud” all over it, so it was not the best looking buggy.

I have a question about reclaiming our avatar. I always assumed I’d just hang out until I got an invite or until MW gave us the green light to sign in, and at that time I would reclaim my avatar. Just took a look at the There home page and noticed it says “Claiming an old avatar? Just create a NEW one, using your old avatar name and password.”
Should I have already reclaimed my avatar by creating a new one, so that I’m ready to go when/if the invite comes in? Or is that statement just for those GPs who have received invites?

I would still go and tell the person, when signing up after it says the verification email sent, please verify, tell them to look in their spam folder.
I would contact the ISPs spam hosts directly and explain see if the blacklist would go ahead and stop.

Yay getting closer! Yes, ISPs often block a lot before it even gets to the spam folders. Then there is the work of making sure there are no keywords in the emails that would trigger spam blockers too. I was building an email list for a website before and it was a lot of testing, even then there were no guarantees. The site Namron posted was very informative. Sometimes you gotta wonder do people actually read the updates, if you noticed the next step in their to do list is for self invites. So it’s safe to assume no more gp’s are going to be invited. But since this will be limited at first to 50-100 people I’m glad they aint paying attention, maybe I can sneak into the 1st batch of self invites 🙂

Have to love that SPAM folder… always full. Sadly alot of actual stuff is labled as spam yet the things we have no clue who they are are considered real. Like for instance: Joshua, we have been looking for you to claim your inheritance. Urgent reply!!! Wife and I loved them bull riding pics. We like to go up to Tennessee and they have mechanical bulls there full size and its insane to be flinging in the air and holding on for dear life, but of course with the safety of thick rubber mats. If your having issues with ThereMail getting marked as spam from EC2, you may want to make sure you did this part:
https://aws-portal.amazon.com/gp/aws/html-forms-controller/contactus/ec2-email-limit-rdns-request
This allows amazon to let the major gateway providers that you ‘saying’ your not a spammer. Of course, sending spam would still mess that situation up as well.
If your using an Elastic IP address for the mail server (recommended), that form also lets you also request a there.com pointer for reverse DNS which helps too!

For a sec I’d thought I missed the launch. No activity here got me to thinking maybe ThereIM was up and running now. I quickly went To There thinking I was again the Last one to get in. When There was in Beta the first time I didn’t get a notice back, after two weeks of waiting I tried again and was accepted…after Beta was over and it went public. I wanted to be a Beta so bad too. That was over a year ago too and I don’t think my Spam filters have changed… oh well, I’m just happy we’re getting there 🙂

Also its great to hear this will be fixed. It would be great to not see that in my Spam folder, but one good think is that Gmail has the option to NOT mark that sender as spam. ‘tu Google! 🙂
