A few little changes

We had a little outage a few moments ago (we did send out an announcement) to:

• Improve lost password handling slightly: The new way is just an old way. If you don’t have/remember your secret answer, then just provide your legacy email and we will reset the password and send the email to that.
• Loosen up the curse word filter a bit, since we’re an 18+ world now (really, it was stopping a legitimate user from getting back on)
• Fix a Firefox rendering issue.

By the way we hit a ThereIM CCU of 247 – a new ThereIM record.

We’re also working on a fix for folks who included a “‘” (quote, or tick) in their secret answer – it actually caused their avatar to be skipped when we were loading the table of “old” avatar names. Our favorite secret answer was: “I won’t forget”.

(It’s not true that internally we refer to folks who did this as “tick-infested”. Not true at all).

We really wanted to get these little things ironed out before proceeding with the restoration of gear, etc, so please be patient. Don’t post comments asking “When will my stuff be restored?” (Avie left hand into the AvieIncinerator), send us email (left hand and right hand up to the elbow into the AvieIncinerator), or call us (All of your belongings into the AvieIncinerator, then your Avatar. Your dogs will have to watch, and we’ll set them free afterwards).

Finally, we figured out we would not be restoring the following items:

• Avatar Comments
• Favorite Places

This mostly has to do with the fact that the Avatars on which you’ve commented will have a different internal identifier (“Doid”), and it’s impossible to associate the comments with the right avatars if they aren’t in world yet when we restore your data. That being said, we might be able to go back later and restore these comments so that, yes, you WILL remember that you owe that person 20,000 T$ for shooting me with a paintball.

The Favorite places issue has to do again with Doids, and also with the fact a lot of places – like CCMetro – will have disappeared. As someone said “Looks like a great chance to explore the world again.”.
