If you’ve been reading the reports from the GP3D’s, you’ll see that things have been chugging along:
- SamSyn has loaded all the “Scenes” in the world, so we expect that all old houses and funzones should now be in world.
- Bruce has brought a new gaggle of servers on line, so has to handle all the objects in the world. Of course, we can always add more if we need them for more objects. For the 237th time, the size of the world does not affect the number of servers required.
The next steps are this:
- SamSyn will be building a new client with the “UUDobs” for all the loaded scenes in the world. This client will also use the “Get There” and “Patching” technology we had before we closed. This must work before we can go any further.
- We will then start letting lots more people in, limiting attendance by # of simultaneous users and whether or not you had the right to participate in “Beta Tests” before There closed (which was almost everyone).

yesterday i was at work checken if there was gona be on for all of us and i clicked the download button to my suprise it worked the download for there works now i almost played sick and came home to install it it was just like christmas i got home installed the world but tryed to get on and it sed world is closed my head droped but then i seen a plus to this at least i got to put back my layouts im so redy thanks for gettin us back there some of us was lost with out it nothing compairs with there

I have been following the blog ever since I heard There.com was re-opening 5-ish months ago. The day MW said he would make the announcement whether There.com was reopening or not I swear I checked the blog 50 times. Ive been visiting the blog eversince and I made my first comment on the blog yesterday. Its exciting to see all the progress and hardwork that has been done to get to the point that we are at now. I thank MW for all the updates, the GP3Ds, Sam Syn and everyone else who is hard at work finding and fixing bugs.

GP3D mimi06 Downloaded newest client, both DX8 and DX9 work extremely well for me. Spent the day dropping paz’s, decorating, dropping vehicles, driving, exploring.. World loads up great on my end. I can also now see the sun’s reflection in the water :O
My inventory loads well. Can receive IM’s from THEREIM well. I can use voice in IM’s with no issues. Walkway is looking awsome, not sure why there’s a wedding cake there rofl.. I can teleport with ease to all areas.
Can’t wait to see you all in THERE! Hurry HOME!

World is coming along quite well. There is still a bug that pops up building wise here and there, or ones that seem to be in some places but not others, but I would think I would be safe to say we are almost home. My wife and I (xxDragonfFlyxx) have been taking turns through my avie testing different things that we each knew well, searching for issues and I’d be a liar if I didn’t say having some fun here and there. I have spent most of my time building as big as I can with many building types, tearing back down to scratch and reassembling, flying to different locations looking for maybe something missed and more. She has focused on other things which she can post about when she gets online. It has been nice to see the buggy racing timers and lap records working right, and to just be back in world. it is amazing how many places that I think even as long as I have played I never had visited before, and am glad we are ALL getting another chance to do. Many I am sure will do some things differently this time around. I have been adding tons upon tons of pics, some testing, some what is this, and some just having fun. i don’t know how to bring them in here, so am posting them in our small but drama free group “THERE.com on FaceBook”. For the “Gp3d’s” that were before me, hats off to you on all the work you did. To the current, yall are a mess lol, and to the future ones soon coming, don’t leave a plane unattended.. “BABS” may sneak up and fly away lol If I might suggest one thing.. we are all going to be adults this time around, and in so saying, treat others how you want to be treated. Just cause you have a “Gold Star”(if they do that now) doesn’t mean you are over anyone. It means you are a servant to all.. I think this is a major reason many churches crash is cause those who are there to serve the people try to be overlord’s. In the former THERE I saw a good bit that used this position wrongly, from trying to get folks banned to going around to others hoods and trying to get folks to move out and into there’s or one of there friends. Grow up is all I can say. Now with my gripes out of the way, I hope to see you all again soon in world. be telling your friends and showing pics, if we want this to lat and stay around, we have to not only support it but help it to grow. Not really complaining, just saying though, I understand the obvious aggravations of putting up with arrogant people who come on and try to stir junk up and cause trouble, but dang, being nice, polite and relatively quiet in these posts doesn’t seem to go very far either.

I have to post this here rather than email the feedback link well because of the issue itself. AOL is blocking ALL emails from There. I semi noticed this myself lately but aint care cause I only noticed I wasn’t getting stuff like friend requests and club joining notifications. But my good friend I just informed about the reopening uses AOL as the associated email with her avie and cannot remember her password. The email for reset password aint coming through and she’s tried numerous times to reset and I’ve tried to reset it for her also. Myself I can probably just change emails associated since I already have my password, but she cannot get in period to do it. If you can somehow bypass the block and manually reset her password, her avatar is “chickinlil” and email is chickinlil1984@aol.com ty

miranda, Make sure that you follow the instructions contained within your registration welcome email from THERE.com.
Use the download link from the email.
If you send your question/s or issue/s to support via the same email, they can help you beyond the basic instructions.

If you download the second ThereIM version (see link below) there is no need to cut and paste like in the first and follow this instructions from the update:

Its been fun coming on line lately to see how the world is progressing! Thank you MW, SamSyn, Bruce and the rest of the team for all the updates and the fun videos showing loved places back home.
I hope WASD movement controls may be considered to be implemented since the guts of the world lay open.
Many are excited including myself, but hopefully most will relax and let you all do the work you are doing.

Then you would need to click or determine some non-text key (like tab?) to toggle back and forth between text and action mode. Maybe double tapping control could act as an action mode toggle.
I am WASD friendly, but I’m mostly on late at night when the family is asleep and while I can hear I don’t talk (voice) much.
I can also type chat while I’m moving/driving/etc. it’s ok to text and Drive in There! but that wouldn’t work if every time I hit W or S I messed up cruise control.
A third option rather than changing the interface that has existed for almost 10 years is probably not on the launch list. Please don’t ‘new coke’ a feature like that! 😛

Many MMOs that I’ve seen just hit “enter” first, then type and “enter” again to complete the sentence/thought/emote. Pretty easy to remember and not complicated even for new users to figure out. I’m all for WASD key movement ‘tu
The downfall to that though is pgdown would no longer be nearby to use voice so I would have to remap that on my keyboard since I drive and talk quite alot. 😀

How long has toggling action mode with the alt key been an option. Very sweet!
I still think I would prefer WASD mode to be a specific ‘gaming’ mode (where we can redefine inputs to what we want or use alternate inputs like a game controller), but I could probably adapt.

I suspect the “simultaneous users” means there would be a limit to how many folx can be in world at the same time, say 250.. if you are number 251, you will not get in.. Try again later!
There was a group of people who did the Beta Testing of each new client before it was released to the masses.. I suspect On the other handthis is the group he is refering to. I was offered the position, but declined as I have always tried to steer clear of beta software of any sort.. In this, I would probably make an exception if offered.. 😉
On the other hand, it could mean anyone who was an actual paid member before March2010, in which case the “almost everyone” would indeed apply!! 🙂

I think ” imiting attendance by # of simultaneous users ” means they are limiting the number of concurrent users , those online at one time … No idea what that is right now but I hope that number soon reaches 40 thousand 🙂

I think the intent is to keep control of the number of users at the beginning to make sure it can handle them as they are increased.
Those who had the right to beta test are those who could download the “green clients” as each version of There was updated to help test them before they were released to everyone. Most of the die-hard Thereians did that; which is probably most of those who comment on this blog.

Great update!
From an old post on Therefuntimes.com in 2007, only criteria to do beta was a premium membership and of course age according to TOS.
I haven’t heard that changed, so if you where payed premium membership in There I’m pretty sure you can get in, when Michael Wilson opens the gates.
There allso was a group named “beta testers of There” but it was more for communications and invites to new betas.

Throughout the life of There.com there were new clients being updated. Before the update was released to everyone it was offered as a “Beta” for those who wanted to test the new client and give reports of any bugs found. Those testers were part of a “beta” group. Probably about half of the people that were on There in its last few years were part of those testers. If you remember in the last year some members had a green bug symbol on their nametags, they were using the green “bug buster” client. Those beta testers had nothing to do with the original beta testers before There opened, even though there may have been some in the later beta group.

Anyone else remember the roller coasters and the victorian house you could piece together by squares was it? And you could make it as big or as small as you wanted – by just inserting the sections between the corners.
The roller coasters were fun 🙂

It sounds like he is saying anyone that could (had an account that was able to) participate in beta, rather than those that actually did participate in the betas. And once again (according to what MW said in previous posts), these are the later betas, not original beta.

Think my first answer did get a little too short;
While There.com was up and running public (after the initial beta test) the client software was improved over time. New versions went into a beta test before they were released and it was open to all members interested in helping with the test.

Yes the client updates,there was a beta page in the forums where you could help test the new client before it was released to everyone.A lot of island guides helped in testing.

We are almost home… WOOHOOO… i can almost hear the Thereian oceans lapping the sands of Duda beach with the faint hum of buggy driving in the back ground…. Tho im still trying to get hold of the Viewer for the buggy designing so i can look at my buggy designs on the buggy model.. so i got summin to do while i wait for There to officially open.. Im already setting my budget to accommodate subscription payments to there so that its all ready for the opening. Thanks for the update Micheal.. and thanks for working hard with your staff to get this thing back off the ground again. Keep up the good work. 🙂

I had someone send me all the tools for developing to practice till it opened, but the only thing that downloaded and opened properly for me was the previewer. I’d send it but I think there’s some rule against sharing those downloads, which I had no clue about when I originally asked for them. But if you can get MW to OK it here I’ll email it to you.

uudob stands for “Usually Uniform Distributed OBject”, and means an object that is so static that the client can assume it exists before it hears anything from any server. That’s why houses sometimes appear briefly with obsolete text on their sign: the house exterior is a uudob, and the sign text doesn’t correct until the server re-sends the object to the client.
