Mr. Pickle

Here’s a little update, inspired by SamSyn:

PORTAZONES

To give everyone a fair shot at land-claiming, we will be picking up ALL member portazones shortly before we open the cluster to all (legacy) members.

Over time, we will also be claiming some regions as ‘sacred’ (i.e. no Paz drops allowed) to protect some landmarks, major thoroughfares and landing locations. For example, right now there is a paz blocking the Duda Beach arrival area. That area will be made sacred (a small circle surrounding the arrival location, that is) Any member pazes already dropped in a sacred area will magically put themselves away once they realize it.

And thanks to Mister Pickle (my name for him, real name withheld to prevent contempt), we will be applying additional restrictions to the till-now-tolerated “drop trick.” We acknowledge the drop-trick is crucial for Space Community development, but we can’t allow a terrestrial paz to have pieces *significantly* outside of its boundary rope — as are the giant pickles in Duda Bay (hundred of meters outside their paz). If this policy change upsets you, please take it up with mister pickle, assuming he doesn’t get himself banned first 🙂

ALTERNATE AVATAR INVENTORIES

As you know, in old There, Basic avatars were free, so it was easy to pick up a bunch, especially as “mule” avatars, to carry your excess inventory. In New There, however, each avatar is an individual and will require the monthly subscription to be able to login.

We will provide a tool by which you can claim the inventory of your old alt avatars, so long as that inventory has not already been claimed.

Hence, you should recreate your PRIMARY avatar, but leave your alts alone until this tool is available. Your primary avatar should be the one you enjoyed the most, had your favorite name, all the skills you enjoyed, and your favorite buddy list. (because when you claim the inventory of an alt, all you will get is the inventory (and that will not include the alt’s skills or skill reward items, if any)).

If you have already claimed your alt(s), you will need to manually transfer the inventory to your main. If you cannot achieve this before a subscription is required, then you would have to buy a subscription (at least temporarily) for the alt in question.

Claiming the inventory of an alt will be as easy as:

* log in as your main avatar (with a current subscription)
* open your Profile Page
* select “Claim Legacy Inventory”
* enter the alt’s name and password
* wait for confirmation

The actual possessions will then appear after they have been ‘migrated’ (A process we perform within a day or two, but not immediately)

And, of course, you are also free to just re-create your alts with their own subscriptions. And we thank you in advance in either case!

Note from MKW: We know that many people has “suggested” that we allow all avatars in world for free for “some amount of time” to transfer all of their Alt Inventories, but we don’t think we’re going to do that. Experience has shown that whatever amount of time we provide, and however much notice we give, it won’t be enough (“You announced that the day after I left for my trip to climb Mt. Everest, NOT FAIR!!!!”).

Also, we fear a “free-for-all” is going to result in the system, once again, being full of abandoned avatars and alts, which is exactly where we don’t want to be, again.

So, that’s where we came up with the “Recovery Tool”. We know it’s not going to be popular, but we think it’s better than the alternatives, or none of your old inventory, at all.
