Are you dead-set against the idea of using Tbux to pay for subscriptions?

Perhaps you could set a cut-off date where ALL EXISTING Tbux will be expired, so everyone will have to use up what they have before that date.

And after that date, subscriptions begin. Anyone who wants to keep playing from then on will have to buy new Tbux and pay their monthly fee.

It would be a good shot in the arm for your short-term finances, and it would make the in-game economy more vibrant in the long run.

Jeeez I love paypal – it is so easy and painless!!

    • #10 by sue_g on 2011.12.06 - 5:06 pm

I agree πŸ™‚ Just bought $10 worth. No problems at all.

To verify you need a credit card or checking account, or a current PP account. Open a 2nd checking account at the SAME bank. You should then be able to transfer funds as needed from the main account to the “online only” account. Get a debit card. Use it ONLY for TBucks or online purchases. Keeps the rest of your money safe.

For those that can only use the prepaid cards, use them in conjunction with PayPal. If there is no way you can, I’m sorry. This is the direction MW MUST go. As There grows again, he might be able to allow other forms of payment.

      • #11 by ImageMaker on 2011.12.07 - 3:30 am

I’m sorry, but this won’t help you if you’re a victim of PayPal fraud — I worked for a major bank for ten years, and they all operate the same way in this: “right of offset.” If you have an account that (in the opinion of the bank) owes the bank money, they’ll take the money from any other account you “own” (and their definition of ownership isn’t always intuitive — it can include your grandma’s Christmas Club account on which you’re a signer, just in case, or your kids’ “rainy day” savings that you started to teach them the advantages of thrift, or a sole proprietor business account) before they’ll write it off as a loss. If you can prove (to the bank’s satisfaction) that a loss was fraudulent, and meet the bank’s other requirements (usually including timely reporting of a suspect transaction), you’re likely to eventually get the money back, but it can cause untold harm while it’s missing and the bank generally won’t consider themselves liable for consequential damages (say, your business going under because they took all your operating money).

The best way to protect yourself with PayPal is the same way you protect yourself with a regular bank account: keep track of your activity, and guard personal information and stored logins on your computer.

With all the bad talk going around the internet lately about PayPal, and as someone who has been screwed over by them before, I’m sick of it. I would be happy to use PayPal to purchase Therebucks using a prepaid card, but I just do not trust them with money anymore. Has Google Checkout ever been considered as a payment processor? It isn’t the holy grail and savior of money exchanges, but I’ll use it every chance I can get over PayPal.

I was in There clicked to buy Tbucks and I was taken to the Paypal link. I did not have a Paypal account but I filled out the information and got my Tbucks. I use a very low CREDIT LIMIT credit card and monitor it daily. I print out any transactions that I do on it. So far no troubles but ready for that IF! Thanks Phoenix Team and MW for the easy way to buy Tbucks! I am now ready to Spend!!!.

  15. #20 by NathanAvis on 2011.12.06 - 6:43 am

Put my $45 in and bar a few bugs on the pages (think you guys were being overloaded with tbux purchase requests!) all went very smoothly and I will be putting some more in in a couple of weeks.

Hopefully this will drive down the need to remove otherwise “okay” customers for making “unauthorized purchases” πŸ˜€

I love There, and would hate to see you miss out on all the Wonderful Fun that MW is his Team are working so hard right now to get ready for us.

The game is not completely open yet, we are still Testing. Not sure if you are seeing “closed” or “full” but PLEASE hang in there and don’t give up on the game!!!

There’s is No Place Like There.com

    • #25 by Greenie on 2011.12.06 - 5:51 pm

      Hi Xfruitcakex,
THERE is open for testing right now. Only avatar accounts which have a gold or platinum fun pass can participate during this testing phase. THERE has not gone open for the public yet.
Patience is a MUST HAVE for Thereians who do not have access right now but this in no way means that it is “too good to be true”.
Progress is made and this update is one of the bigger hurdles that the team has overcome.

It would be a good time to catch up on things that can be taken care of now, to free up some THERE time when they do open for the public!

      Keep heart!

For some reason, even though I have never tried to cheat, steal, hack, or scam anyone or anything in There, I get moderated and the drop of a hat because of what some idiot tells them.

I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on There. But some unemployed guy helps me run my funzone and now he gets me moderated and takes my funzone.

It was my money that paid for it and kept it going and paid for all the tracks and items.

I email and email for help to get my original avatar in world and I hear back nothing and get no help. This bum sends one little email and gets my avatar and my funzone.

I hope he got a job somewhere along the way. But I highly doubt he’s going to be spending the amounts I used to.

I cant believe I came back to this game after you always treated me so badly. I guess I thought things would have changed. And all must because I dont have a penis. geez.

    • #28 by NathanAvis on 2011.12.06 - 6:51 am

If someone says you did something bad or made an unauthorized purchase they have ways of checking it.
Best way to combat it is wait for customer services to be fully operational.

I dunno why you are playing the sexism card. I had a lot of trouble in a certain official volunteer program thanks to being a non-macho male with some personality traits which come across as odd to others thanks to a disorder I’d rather not elaborate on. Look where those people are now. I think they have made a complete turn around in terms of priorities and management of the new There.

  25. #33 by Beach_dude on 2011.12.05 - 7:22 pm

The same thing happened to me as happened to Kaola above #12. I quote it exactly: “paypal is not working, it says to input credit card information, which I do, click save and continue and it tells me β€œthe address has already been entered for your PayPal account” and brings me back to the page wanting me to put in my credit card info.”

It isn’t PayPal that is not working, because I buy from them all the time and have for years. I have plenty in my account too, even though I got some reply that it didn’t have sufficient and I needed to input my credit card iniformation. I did it, and got the above comment. I was only testing it with a request to buy $20 worth of 36,000 T. But it didn’t work, unless it has since I tried it, but I can’t get into THERE tonight, always busy. I went to PayPal and found no record of a transaction for THERE. My balance remains many times larger than what I was trying to buy.

    • #34 by thereuser on 2011.12.05 - 8:39 pm

Above the area where it asks you to enter credit card information, you will find a “sign into paypal”… use that instead. πŸ˜€

This kinda sucks because Paypal is simply blocked in my country. Nothing to say, but it does seem like several people have a problem with this being the only payment option. To repeat the question asked, have there been any considerations for alternative payment options? Oh well.

  34. #43 by knighthawk101 on 2011.12.05 - 3:25 pm

Well I’m pretty disgusted and disappointed, Several folks on here have said, and I assumed were speaking definitively for MW, We would not have to have a paypal account to purchase t-bucks. As a matter-of-fact Jimony was one of them. I thought all you guys talked amongest each other who replied to questions on here. We need another option for payment, I’ve been ripped by paypals security for the last time and do not intend to put myself in that position again. Why, if requiring a verified account was so obvious, are we just being told about it now. This has been posted about in facebook, on this blog and on thumdar. Geez it would have been nice to know we needn’t have bothered. Is there any plans at ALL in the near future to have another payment option? And, please only someone that “KNOWS” this time reply as this is freaking most frustrating.

    • #44 by Michael Wilson on 2011.12.05 - 3:42 pm

At the time, we’d forgotten about the whole “Chargeback” issue, and how it caused us to be restricted to verified accounts.

You can get your account “Verified” WITHOUT putting in a credit card. There’s a procedure to have them send you a letter which has a “code” in it. You enter the code, and your account is verified, without tying it to a credit card. For the address you can use your real address, or wherever you have your mail delivered. I’m not sure if they accept P.O. boxes though.

I don’t know how to help you there. It sounds like you already have a PayPal account, or someone has already registered for PayPal with your email address.

      • #49 by Deleight on 2011.12.05 - 3:10 pm

We figured out the problem (I’m his wife)… had to physically go into his paypal account and add credit card to his account… after that he was able to buy there bucks successfully πŸ™‚

      • #50 by Deleight on 2011.12.05 - 3:30 pm

Hi MW, I’m his wife (who gets to hear all his frustrations from this side of the screen lol)… yes he has a PayPal account, which is a verified account. It is just the basic personal paypal account. It is asking him to link a credit card to his account but will not let him complete the process.

      • #51 by Deleight on 2011.12.05 - 3:31 pm

Had to try a couple of times but in the end I got the job done. On other websites paypal gives you the option to use a credit card instead of using or creating a paypal account. Perhaps that option should also be available if possible for those who don’t want to use paypal!!!!

    • #57 by toufovou on 2011.12.05 - 1:59 pm

  41. #61 by Puter_Head on 2011.12.05 - 1:45 pm

Can’t purchase without paypal account… how sad. You really should toggle that option to allow us to purchase through paypal by credit card without starting an account. Without going into detail there are many reasons a person does not want to deal with paypal to the point that they are holding all personal information. I can tell you that identity theft is a real issue with some. Not making that option available will loose some possible customers. Like me. I will not give paypal my personal information again… regardless of what anyone on here says about how many years they have been with them with no issues…etc. Some folks have not been as lucky. Say what you want about paypal.

If you have the option, which most business accounts have, to turn this on… please do MW! I wanna be a part of this and purchase purchase purchase… but I will not start a paypal account to do it.

    • #62 by Michael Wilson on 2011.12.05 - 1:50 pm

The problem is this: When There was last open we had a large problem with Chargebacks, which is when someone makes a charge with PayPal, and then yanks it back for one reason or another.

Each one of these cost us money and PayPal threatened to shut down our merchant account if the chargeback numbers continued to be high.

One of the ways they “suggested” that we control is was by requiring a verified account, which, given the alternative (no ability to collect payments at all), seemed like a reasonable alternative.

So that’s why it’s like that. We actually don’t have much of a choice.

      • #63 by Puter_Head on 2011.12.05 - 1:56 pm

I understand sir… just wish there was another way, but really do understand.

In litigation now with them and ebay over $26,000.00 and been dealing with it for a year and a half. Will not sign on again with them. And no… I was not at fault…lol!!

Best of luck, and thanks for the response.

      • #64 by dave008 on 2011.12.05 - 2:44 pm

You do not have to have a “business account” for it to be verified. I think (was a while mago now) that they send you a letter with a random code which you then put in. That verifies your address. Even better is direct credit which is what we use now. Again they verify your account and you do not even need a credit card.

      • #65 by Cynrhia Yonkers on 2011.12.05 - 4:37 pm

Can we buy therebux by sending you a check? Just asking for those who want to know. Via the snail mail option.

      • #66 by Puter_Head on 2011.12.06 - 4:29 am

Or a money order… something? Really want to join and buy!

The mail verification is true… but they still hold your personal info. Not willing to allow that again… so sad!
