When There was created, the company spent a certain amount (actually, a large amount) (even larger than the cost of the massively expensive 3D Studio Max and Maya Software :-)) developing art for the world.
Some of the art was just scenery, some was to set ambiance, some was for partners, and some was to set the stage for activities. And some of it is a mystery, lost in the depths of There’s history.
Since I’ve been with There since 2001, I can confidently say that none of the art was invested in to be covered up, or completely obscured – that would have been a waste of valuable artist’s time. That’s what terrain and trees are for.
Since There re-opened, we’ve visited Zephyr many times, and discovered that There’s investment in that space (which is really an investment for you) has been obscured by other … art. While we appreciate the fact that other folk are uh, competing, to decorate it, the result has been that people can’t use it. At times it’s just too full of objects to perform well, have fun, or move 3 feet without falling into some sort of trap.
We had hoped over time this would resolve itself, but it’s pretty clear that that’s not going to happen.
After talking it over with SamSyn, I’ve (yes, “I’ve“, so you can blame me) asked SamSyn to make the “central part” – at least out to the SPAs, and maybe out to the canyon walls – “Sacred” – e.g., a no-drop zone for PAZs.
You will still be able to preserve that “special ambience” of Zephyr by putting stuff outside of the sacred area, or up on the canyon walls.
We know that some folks (especially the ones who’ve tried the hardest to decorate Zephyr) might not like this, but we think it’s the best approach overall for the Community, and those who will come after it. I know that some of you will fear this will remove the “Wild West” feeling of Zephyr, but I’m sure that the snipers who will now be able to lay in wait there will more than make up for it.
This will take place sometime in the next week.
