May Update

Some quick updates for May:

. We’re on track for another profitable month. Woo hoo!

. Samsyn, Bruce and I had a great time at the Great Gathering of 2012. The collection of PAZ builds was just amazing, and I think I’ve now downloaded every texture available on earth or something close to it!

. Samsyn has made great progress in re-working submissions to get submissions into the system, and either ready for peer review, or, and this is really exciting, ready to be “Try-It’d” by the Developer. This has involved getting the old infrastructure up, and building lots of new stuff and plumbing to get us from the Previewer to “instant products in world”.

No, this doesn’t tell us when we’ll have a new previewer available for download, or when we’ll be “Done”. Since as you all know we have lots of little distractions in any given week, we’re not going to predict dates and then get everyone disappointed. :-).

That’s all for now. I’ll of course have an update with this month’s revenue numbers at the end of the month.

This is anecdotal, but ,according to some at the gathering at thumdars paz, there were 201 avatars in it and very little lag,at least from my experience,I could render 50 at once, take a step, derender those and render 50 more,it was amazing,I could take out a pack and put it away, walk around and so forth, but it seemed 201 was the limit,so I logged out so others could enjoy it too,yay cloud, what other VR world can claim this kind of avatar density with very little lag, thanks Michael, for bringing a little more realism to our world.Like downtown New York on new years eve and no lag, comparitively, hugs.

I like the water rocket in the picture. Wish we had those in world. Not just hoverboats that look like rockets, but actual rockets.

Thats great! Thanks for the update and I didn’t see you at the event but thats ok. Glad you had a good time. I didn’t know u could place a paz at the event or I would’ve placed one. I guess it was invite only to place a paz, however it was ok just didn’t enjoy the event as much cause of lag so I didn’t wander off to far. I’m also glad profits are looking good for the complany, thats very important and it allows us to know that there is profiting and making great progress. Just remember you can’t please all the players request and many don’t understand the cost and the involvement that it takes to put things in place. I really enjoy being part of there and looking forward to a good future in there. Thanks MW and Samsyn

Hi arbatas, Paz dropping at The Great There Gathering 2012 on Eagle Head Isle was a free for all, so to speak. People just dropped and decorated at will. As far as I am aware of, there were no invitations or “Bouncers” at the gates. You were welcome to drop a paz like the rest of those who did. Members began celebrating and gathering shortly after the Gathering announcement was posted. The whole week leading up to it was AWESOME! A great big thank you to Samsyn and team for making it possible, the members for bringing the fun and adventure and to Thumdar for the great idea!

    Hi Michael / There team

Back in the old days I used to have a PC, and it was great to play There on. Actually There was almost the only thing I used my PC for. Now however my PC is long gone in favor of a Macbook. I heard Michael uses a Mac and rumor has it a There Mac client. While I understand it may be troublesome I’m sure a great deal of us are in the same boat with only having a Mac now There is back online. So how about an Alpha version for us to use? Mac is becoming more and more common in gaming, the latest HumbleBundle stats show that over 25% of gamers now use a Mac, those numbers are hard to ignore I’m sure you agree.

I would absolutely love to test a Mac version of the client and would do anything to be able to subscribe and get in world.

    Hope to hear from you,

The most immediate thing you can do to get in world at present would be to install one of various virtualizers (at least one of which is free, I hear) or, failing that, a dual boot manager, and a copy of Windows (XP, Vista, or 7 — not free, but you might be able to get, cheaply, a used copy of XP that’s legit and can be activated), and run the Windows client on your Macbook.

I’d look into a larger pool than HumbleBundle before making claims about 25% of gamers using Macs

      • #16 by Josh P on 2012.05.24 - 11:55 am

The thing is, the Humble bundle stats are the only sample where all the games sold work on linux, PC & Mac. We could look at the steam hardware stats but it’s going to be well bias as most games are PC only and steam has been on PC 10x longer than Mac. If you want another unbias stat you could look at WoW where in early 2011 they said Mac usage was 10% and came back in Feb this year saying it was hovering around 15%. There really is no argument the Mac is a valid option for gamers. I am actually a game programmer, and I’ve been solely using a Mac for over a year now.

Thank you for the update! It will be fantastic to be able to submit items again someday soon! I am rather excited about being able to see the thing in world and to be able to tes/try it out right away. That sounds really cool!

Thank you for the update. Looking forward for the development program. 🙂 It was great to see you all at the gathering!

This is an off-topic question. Just wondering, do you think it’s possible, if you could re-establish the ‘try-it’s in the Welcome Walkway for new members to try on clothes? Also, do you know what happened to the free clothes that new members would get when they came on the walkway? There was a one outfit for males and females that new members were able to click on to get a free copy of the jacket and pants.
