I couldn’t attend the Solstice Ball today, but SamSyn was of course around to keep a watchful eye. Here’s a quote from an email:
So far so good…
peaked with about 90 people in the zone, at which point the ihost dropped to about 18 sps (but wasn’t particularly noticeable in the event), then lightened to about 70 avatars and the sps went back to 30.
“sps” is “Steps Per Second”.
Remember, if you saw Blockheads, it was NOT caused by There, or the Servers, or anything else like that. “Blockheads” are how the client attempts to protect your framerate by rendering avatars which are “less important” (not in your chat group, further away, etc) as block heads instead of full-featured avatars.
In any case the real excitement was the CCU:
Remember, those are all PAYING customers – genuine members of the community as opposed to drive bys, one-of-34 alts, or (hopefully) griefers (Well, at least they were PAYING griefers).
Congratulations to everyone on a GREAT event.
