Woo hoo – Solstice Ball!

I couldn’t attend the Solstice Ball today, but SamSyn was of course around to keep a watchful eye. Here’s a quote from an email:

So far so good…
peaked with about 90 people in the zone, at which point the ihost dropped to about 18 sps (but wasn’t particularly noticeable in the event), then lightened to about 70 avatars and the sps went back to 30.

“sps” is “Steps Per Second”.

Remember, if you saw Blockheads, it was NOT caused by There, or the Servers, or anything else like that. “Blockheads” are how the client attempts to protect your framerate by rendering avatars which are “less important” (not in your chat group, further away, etc) as block heads instead of full-featured avatars.

In any case the real excitement was the CCU:

Remember, those are all PAYING customers – genuine members of the community as opposed to drive bys, one-of-34 alts, or (hopefully) griefers (Well, at least they were PAYING griefers).

Congratulations to everyone on a GREAT event.

The event was incredibly fun, it’s too bad we didn’t get to see you there Mr. Wilson!

Thank you to Soede for hosting and working SO hard on this event and to everyone else involved as well for helping to make it the huge success that it was!

And thanks Mr. Wilson for posting the event information on your blog. It seemed to really help people that wouldn’t have usually heard about it get the info and attend.

Wow — 190 or so online at once, and 140+ of them in a single zone., and the servers kept up. Nice!

A big big thankyou to soede for putting on a brilliant event, I do not think I have see so many avatars in one place all at the same time before. I just hope the Summer There Games are as well attended as this event was last night(early hours of the morning 1.00 am to 4.00 am BST UK), keep up the good work soede it did pay off very well indeed.

It was an awesome event! After the blockhead issue was resolved (so weird because I could not see the guy right in front of me, but could see Soede (Host) way far away), everything went so well. The decorations were beautiful, and the music was fun. And thanks to Cindy83 who kept the emotes going. πŸ™‚ Was especially sweet to get our picture taken in front of the Solstice Ball sign. Great touch!

Again, the Therian community pulled one off! Thank you to all those worked so hard to make this such a great event. The kissing booth raised more then 90k. These donations have been put into the THERE Summer Games fund. They will be used to help with the costs of what ever needs to be paid for. Medals, hosting gifts, I have no idea the expense, but this will surely help. Again thank you to all of you. An awsome time with awsome people. Who says THERE is dead??? LMAO

I wanted to attend…. I would log on and start getting ready and then my client would crash. Soede probably saw the notice of me logging in and out in and out.
after the fourth or 5th time I finally gave up… now my desktop looks weird gonna have to do some tweaking when I get home.
but did want to give Props to Soede I know she put in quite a few hours making the zone look just right
I wanted to contribute but had nothing she needed.
hopefully I can make the next one.

It was so nice time. I enjoy to wear former clothes with tall hat and emotes dance for three hours. Also it is good to see other people that i have not seen them for a while. I hope it will do some events in the future.

I am sorry you were not able to attend Mr. Wilson. The feeling of fun and enthusiasm at this event went far beyond just another social. This reminded me more than anything of the excitement and fun at the “Beta Ball” (I forget the exact name now) at the end of public beta back in 2003! I had a blast at the event and was amazed not only by ‘fun factor’ but also by the clever decoration and even by the way the outside of the zone was decorated with a fun area or two for those who could not get in right away! With this and the return of the Stray Katz the night before, There events are really coming back in a big way!

Thanks SO much to everyone who helped make this event a success! Thanks to Francis_7, BansheeKate, HoverboatPilot, Riot_Girl_1, Orielle, Mimi06, Cindy83, xCalUrradio, Flygirl_Dani, KorbenCongrejo, Babs, Papabare2024, DelilahElise, _Know, SaltySilver, University, Kitte, Vonilei, Coolnet560 and Samsyn!!

We had 121 people at the first part of the event before it turned into a sea of blockheads. Thanks to Oreille who realized it was the high number of co-hosts that was causing the issue. 143 were at the relisted event and we had a rockin’ time!! Thereians are awesome!!
