That is cause they slowly let so many self invite at a time, just keep trying repeatedly as you have time and eventually it’ll go through. Provided they are still taking self invites.

The last few days have been great fun. I got a few level up emails. All of my clothes are restored (I changed to my favorite Blue Pinstripe suit)! My inventory is back! (Can’t wait to jump on a hoverboard)! And 30+ buddies have suddenly appeared on my buddies list in IM. Very exciting stuff! Keep up the great work, Michael, Samsyn, and Bruce. It would be cool to have a ‘meet and greet the staff’ so to speak on opening day of the 3D world. I’d love to ‘hi5’ or ‘hug’ these gents for all the hard work!

You have to use the “Invite me NOW” link in the lower left corner of the There.com home page.
You will then receive an email IF you are 18 or older and NOT a banned avie.
Follow the directions on that email and you will be fine.

If you look at your There profile from the ThereIM link you’ll see “Transaction history.” To get all the items back to you they have to be “gifted”… if you’ve been migrated over with clothing, check that link to see your items re-gifted to you. You obviously won’t have access to them in ThereIM, but they’ll be in your inventory when the VW opens up again… in theory.

There should be an announcement as soon as the “Give” option is available for us to use.
If you Right click on a piece of clothing you paid for you will see a “Give” prompt.
That link is NOT working yet.

Uh try inviting yourself again. I had to invite myself 3 times before the system got it right and let me register. Also make sure the account you are trying to register is the same one you invited.

I want to know if they are migration avatars by when users started on there.com or by random? I have random buddies appearing on my list that I didn’t add since re creating my avatar, but no other inventory yet. Is this part of the migrating process? It’s been going on for a few days now.

Those buddies are probably people who had you on their list (and vice versa), who have been migrated. I had several of those show up before my “Change Me” populated, and all of them had platinum or gold fun passes. Once my stuff came in, I started to see other buddies with bronze passes as soon as they got registered. That’s dropped off some now; most of my 60+ buddies had been gone from There for a year or more before closing… ;(

For the students in the world (such as myself), money can… come and go (funny how alcohol does that). Will we be able to say… Pay one month, miss a month (and not have access to the account) and then pay the next month and have access again…
This feels like a stupid question, but I felt like asking it… As I saw ‘every avatar consumes resources’, does that mean those that ‘forget’ to pay a month or two will ‘die’?

Not just students; some of us who work for a (so-called) living have that problem too, and that question had come up for me. I’m also concerned that payments will be an automatic charge (which, for, me, will be on debit to my checking account), and I have trouble remembering to record those (which can get very expensive very quickly, at $35 per overdraft) — but I’m willing to wait until it’s time to actually pay for final answers. If I can control the payment, get notified a couple weeks before it’s due every month, and revert to “inactive” if I have to wait a few days, I’ll be pretty happy — but if not, I’ll do my damnedest to find a way to cope.

No that dosen’t mean that at all from what I can tell. If you have ThereIM set to automatically sign you in, then it fails normally the fist time. Then once you click sign in it will work. Or its something to do on your part. But I was getting the same thing too. ‘tu

If you changed the target in your desktop icon but then clicked on the one in your menu without changing it too, you will get that error. You have to fix the target for every shortcut you use.

Not if you still have access to the email linked to the account. If you do, go over to the Help me remember sutff link. Put in your avatar name click submit. On the next page, put in the email linked to your avatar then click Change Password. Should get an email with your new password.

If all else fails, we’ve been told it may become possible (after the 3D world is open and the workload is a little less deadly) to retrieve old avatars for which both password and old e-mail are lost, based on the credit card information used to pay on the old system — but that will cost a bit extra. So, all is not yet lost, but you may have to wait longer to get your old avatar back.

First off, There is NOT a game. That said. Not sure if you have been following ALL the blog updates since MW announced re opening There, but the reason NOTHING is being said about the 3d world is because its already been discussed months ago. Nothing will change other the dx9 support, and Mac support (Later on). Tbucks are still 1800 per 1 usd. Evidently you have NOT been following along as to why we are starting out with There IM. If you feel like all you will be getting is just ThereIM, then that is your problem. Don’t call MW, Samsyn or Bruce a liar, because so far they have done EVERYTHING, plus some they said they will do. All these questions you ask have already been discussed in previous blogs. Geez take the time to look for them.

Your not the only person waiting for There 3D to open. At last count, a bit before it was open to self invites, there were over 1000 registered Legacy Avatars. I would bet we are over 2000 now.
There are 3 VERY hard working guys at There, working VERY long hours to get There ready for us. I don’t think they have the time to answer questions that have already been answered many times.
I suggest you go back over this Blog and read what a long way we have come in a relatively short time, before you start questioning their motives!
I will fill you in on a LITTLE bit more than Davy did.
There were about 30 Guinea Pigs (Beta Testers) chosen to help find bugs in ThereIM. Davy and I were lucky enough to get invites. We will probably be doing the same thing with There 3D as soon as they are ready for us.
If you do a little searching, you will find that a lot of the problems we GP’s found had nothing to do with There but changes that had been made to web pages about security and spam.
Patience Neo, soon enough you will be able to pull out a paintgun and shoot with someone.

I’m stumped!
Followed all the instructions and read all the tips, but it won’t let me get past the create avatar step using my old avatar name (Fearless_Phil). I knew my old password, but I reset it anyway when it first failed. I’ve reset it three times now, and still no luck getting by Step 1 to Create Your New Avatar using the latest password that was emailed to me. Yes I’ve used the links in the email, and yes I’ve tried different browsers.
Do you think it’s the “_” underscore in my avie name? Anyone else with an underscore in their name have luck getting in?

Mr. Wilson, I have a PROBLEM: I got invited, and I claimed my old avatar, and I “Tried” to download the ThereIM Client through the Invite email, and it stoped at 25%, and then I restarted my computer, and tried to redownload it, and it goes about 1-5% more each time I do that, and now it skips the Downloading stage, and goes directly to the Verifying Publisher stage, and once it finishes that it will give me a “NSIS Error” saying: The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download, or a virus. You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy. It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch (NOT RECOMMENDED)

First thing I’d suggest (as one who isn’t connected with There in any way other than as a customer) is delete the downloaded file and start over on the download. You may also want/need to disable your antivirus while you install the ThereIM client (don’t forget to turn it back on, and “permit” ThereIM in your AV and firewall after installing).

But now when I look at the 3D world, it seems like such a larger, more complicated piece of software. Is getting There 3D to work just a matter of plugging some wires in and pressing a button? Or is it going to take a long time and work like ThereIM?

I don’t get you folks who don’t have your old passwords and email accounts. They say don’t write down your passwords. I do! Reason, over 14 years on the web I have so many accounts I need to write them down. I mean come on. I have 7 personal emails, 4 personal web site emails, then my web site passwords., Than at my job I have like 10 passwords. Than all those video games like There & WOW & Battlefield. An dear god all those website passwords. You need a little black book, not just for the phone numbers to the lady’s! I use a small 5″ x 8″ A to Z telephone/address directory. Well that’s my 2 cents of info, have change for dollar? Before it crashes and we use dollar bills for toilet paper!

Nope, UGC cards to pay membership would take away the 18+ aspect as any child capable of entering the numbers from one could then make an account. He’s using paypal only, so you either need a paypal account or a credit/debit card to use through paypal.

Thanks, Seg — just my way of verifying that I was, in fact, an Old Therian, not just a noob from the last days before closing. I spent a lot of hours in-world learning to maneuver a hoverboat. Can’t figure why my Boat Captain skill isn’t higher than it is, but then it took me three years, near enough, to get Legendary in hoverboard, and I used to jump/stunt off 13th Floor and board up and down Snow Top almost daily.

It was my understanding that you only need access to the previous e-mail if you needed the password reset, not to reclaim your avatar though. You must provide a valid e-mail address with your account though to activate your legacy avatar.

I don’t seem to have anything I’d have to go to a spa to set up first (face shape, build, etc.), so I presume looksets won’t be available until the 3D world opens (however, I presume they’ll become available then). I wasn’t a ThereIM user before, so I don’t know for sure if looksets were ever available in ThereIM, but since I don’t see ways to create, store, or retrieve them, and we’re using a client version from 2009, I presume this is the way it always worked.

If i am on there.Im the migration system hasn’t hit me yet. Anyways, when they say i will get my old inventory back, will this include all of the outfits that were made by other players, and not just the outfits sold in the catalog as the standard clothing. Also, we will be recieving any e-mail or notification letting us know when we have migrated. If not thats ok, I just really want my first questioned answered. Thank you!!!!!!!

Having migrated successfully here is how it happened:
First my FunPass updated from bronze and my skills populated (received email’s just like the old days when my skills increased).
Then friends started appearing that I had not added manually in ThereIM (pre-migration) (as it finds your old friends)
Then a few hours later when I could log in the “change me” in ThereIM started loading all my old clothes (took some time just be patient and let it do it’s thing).
So if you have email notifications on you’ll prob realize it’s happening when you get your FunPass or Skills congratulations email…. and it should be a few hours after that if it works properly!

I can confirm that user-created content is present; I’ve got a couple clothing items I’ve been able to put on that I know for certain were user-created, and some user-created items that I haven’t been able to try in ThereIM show in my transaction history, so should be waiting for the 3D world to open so I can drop them again.

i dont know if the rules of new There2 have changed but MW said that when the 3D world opened we were only going to be allowed one account.(i dont see why if a person wants to have more avies they would pay that much more.)my question is if we can have only one can the way they are moving our inventory over from lagacy avies to new avies can they do the same with our alt avies?

RIght now, you can have all the Avies you want. You just have to pay for them (when we start charging).
Why? Because each Avatar actually does consume resources, takes up space, and generally gluts things up. If we didn’t introduce some way of controlling it, we’d end up with thousands of “Alts”, or “Mules”, many created for no other purpose than to grief others and slink away.
So, we need a better way.

A better way, that allows new people to experience there for free, is to allow non paying avs to travel around and see there, but not chat, and not interact with anything, or have any inventory. Their av could be a non animated stick figure that minimizes server load.
Better still would be to have a small area where they could ask questions of guides, and perhaps experience a vehicle or two.
I think a free look would be a powerful sales tool.

The “free look” as a sales tool, in old There, turned into the nightmare that wound up costing more than paying customers were paying. Nothing prevented a “guest” (often a teenager) from creating free account after free account, even if those were of limited life or limited utility — but even those free avatars consumed server resources, required moderation, etc., i.e. cost Makena real money.
The new version of the “free look” is likely going to be in-world videos, created by users or by staff, posted places where people can see them. There still has advantages over Second Life, IMO — it’s less load on the client system, costs less over time, is easier to learn, and has more built-in game functions (cards, funzones, quest kits, etc.); if we can find a way to make those visible, they’ll bring in new members again.

read the warning if you are locked… you need to wait the 15 mins… every try resets it… so if it said 15, and you tried at 13, you will need to wait 15 again.

That wouldn’t make any sense.. Basically, you are asking to get your account back without credentials.. You need at least one of the following to retrieve your account.
A. Have the password
B. Have had a secret question set up AND remember the answer.
C. Have access to the email REGISTERED to the account.
If you don’t have any of the above, their is no way you could prove you actually are the owner of the account. In other words, your out of luck.

Actually, MW has said (IIRC) that may become possible after the initial migration (by tracing back the credit card that was used to pay for Tbux or Premium on the old account), at some additional cost to the user. However, it seemed clear to me that retrieving accounts without any of the credentials above would be something only attempted after the 3D world was in operation, i.e. the workload at Makena was reduced to a maintenance level instead of the (I suspect) 20 hour days currently going.

That’s what it looks like to me — if you still show a bronze fun pass, they’re people who had you on their buddy list when their account was migrated; if your stuff has arrived and you have your skill list populated, they’re avies who were on your buddy list before and are registered, whether they’ve got their stuff or not.

Mine just showed up, yours should do the same (i.e. you don’t have to do anything special after registering and logging in) — but it took more than 24 hours after I registered, and we’ve been told it might take longer than that (as the stack of accounts to migrate can very easily grow faster than Samsyn can migrate them).

MW you might have a big email issue on your hands. When someone ask’s to be added to my group(s) I get an email with they want to be added blah blah blah the message they typed and the email address will give me their ACTUAL email address’s they used to register with There.com
As for example Scrooge asked to be added to my Facebook_Thereains Group. Now I can see his email. There is a screen shot posted bellow of course I covered the members email as it would be rude for me not to.
Now I’m not the only one that see’s this as I brought it up to Orielle and she said the same thing. Personally my email on My there account is person. So I don’t want it SHARED to everyone. Please tell me you will work on this.

That seems a little odd, Sleestak — I “won” T$550 just in the process of “creating” my avie, downloading ThereIM, and logging in the first time; I’d have expected the same to happen with your avie. But if you’re referring to what was added in the retrieval, then that would either indicate that yes, you had only T$96 when There closed, or that you sold back some quantity during the after-closing buy-back (done to avoid leaving developers with up to multiple millions of worthless Tbux) and left that small amount (possibly because the buy-back was in increments of T$100 or larger — I’d guess at T$1800, equally US$1 — and that was the remainder).

The guess that it was being done by year is untrue. As some people way past 2003 have already got theirs. So now we don’t know for sure which order they are coming in now. I’m 2004 and people I know started in 2006+ have got their things.

Can someone help please? I get my invitation. I go to create the Avatar. When I enter my name, I get told it’s a legacy Avatar and I have to use the legacy password. But as soon as I click next so I can do that, I get told that that name is taken and asked If I want to play the name game. I cannot get to the page for doing the password. Hi MrScrooge, you are partly correct. Indy_Lou (note underscore) was my very first There Avie. It was a Coke Avie and as you know, Coke avies were “limited”. So I made a regular There Avatar, IndyLou, (no underscore) and yes, that one is now registered on the new There and she is awaiting her inventory to be restored. So yes, my avatar IndyLou does exist now (the no underscore avie). I also have a third avie that was set up to manage the hood I owned. It’s name is totally unrelated in spelling to either IndyLou or Indy_Lou, and I get the same problem with it. I can’t get it to the password page. I was really hoping to get them registered so that I could start transfering the inventory over to my one main avie, IndyLou. I see where others have gotten their multiply accounts up and running, so what am I doing wrong?

Hmm, I would try some of the suggestions from the others. I’m also waiting for my inventories so I guess that’s something we’ll just have to wait on. As far as the Feedback@thereinc.com , I know it is getting a ton of e-mail judging from what I have read here and on other forums. I hope you get this resolved soon, I know how frustrating it can be sometimes.

Hi Indy_Lou, Check your ” xxxxxx ‘s invitation to test the resurrection of There.com” email.
If you click on the ” Help Me Remember Stuff ” link you will be taken to a page where you have different options for getting help retrieving your avatar account information.
Make sure that you follow the link in that email to successfully download, install and run your new THERE IM.
Your Legacy Avatar will be generated in IM and your things will be moved into place. It may not happen overnite.
Patience may be in order here but the process IS working! š

Did you read and follow step #3 in the email?
After installing ThereIM, you will need to tweak it a little before it can contact the new There.com cluster
ā¢ Locate the desktop shortcut which launches ThereIM
ā¢ RIGHT-click on the icon and select ‘Properties’ from the popup menu
ā¢ Locate ‘Target’ edit box on the properties dialog
ā¢ Change the “-a xx.xx.xx.xx” part of the target to:
-l http://webapps.prod.there.com/addrdisc/addrdisc
(Note: that -l is a lower-case ‘L’, not a ‘one’ nor an ‘i’)
ā¢ Close the properties dialog, and you should be able to log in to There.com with ThereIM

Maybe someone should create a facebook accout for There IM if one hasn’t already been created so that people can add “There IM” as a friend. This way people will know who is online and can add them on the ThereIM client. Can’t talk to people if you don’t know they are online, meeting people in the 3d client was easy, because you could see them. Until the 3d client comes online ThereIM is just a blank screen.

So far, that may well be normal — my understanding is that there’s an intention to restore developer files (so you can put your creations in auctions again), but that will happen after the 3D world is open. As for items that were in your inventory on closing day, those should come back fairly soon, though possibly not all at once (depending what spells Samsyn has to cast for each migration).

it was one million because prob about 300k were free account ppl, then another 300k were free mule accounts, rough estimates of course. But you get the idea. He’s prob starting off with around 10-20k returning users, again another rough estimate. No telling how many are returning that never blog, or how many would return that have no idea it’s reopening.

from time to time yes… if thereIM seg violated try rebooting your machine (start, shutdown arrow, REBOOT) fixes it for me from time to time.
I have also found that you need to just leave it alone once you sign in…. it appears windows 7 will decide a process is “frozen” faster than XP would… just don’t touch it and eventually it should load up.

The way we returned your old inventory to you is to “Buy” a new copy of each item, just as if you had bought it from the Shop or Auctions. It may not all show up in the transaction history, but it looks like some are leaking though.

I’m showing free “purchases” for the outfit I selected when (re)creating my avie, and awards of a noob hoverboard and hoverpack (funny, I’m pretty sure they didn’t give away hoverpacks when I started; I’d been in There for two years before I finally bought one). So far, it’s just the stuff a new member would get when registering — but I have faith my Solid Pine Buggy and my Starry Night Han will be back soon, and I don’t care how (or if) they show in the transaction history along the way…

Hey Michael I have a sort of good question maybe…
So I requested to be sent an invitation blah blah blah, when I got it I THOUGHT (thought being the key word) I could remember my password from a year ago and by some silly reason I definitely got the “legacy password” wrong. Shortly after I did this I noticed the “Help me remember stuff” link so first I facepalmed but then I went and checked my character starting date and it says TODAY. The other avatars that are being claimed have the correct starting date, so I definitely just made a new account over my name. I sent in a reset password request on my OLD avatar’s OLD email address. I was wondering what’s going to happen to my stupid self now?

When we get to download There and we log into the There world is our Avie going to be in the last spot before There closed or just pop up somewhere?
How do I find my inventory in ThereIM so I will be able to transfer to another Avie when its time?
If I don’t get my favorites back I guess I will have to find a new spot to drop my portazone.

Mandy, did you copy and paste the entire text from the email as shown below into the Target properties,
including the “-l” ( dash el ) to replace the -a and all text following the -a in the target?
-l http://webapps.prod.there.com/addrdisc/addrdisc
If that doesn’t work, uninstall ThereIM (wouldn’t hurt to reboot computer) and reinstall it from the link provided in your email and change the target text and try again.

It sounds like your trying to login through either the There.com website or you still have There.com program installed and you are trying to login that way. Look for the ThereIM icon, make the Target changes in the icons Properties the email says to (right click the icon and select Properties) and then open the ThereIM by double clicking the ThereIM icon.

I think some people are really being clueless in looking at that you didn’t even have to try to re open There. Im sure you will be making money off this, because this is a buissness first, and for most, but you still also did it because you knew how much There meant to us. I was able to track down which email address my avatar belonged to and luckily it was one that is still in existence.
I also lost the password to THAT email address but with enough trial and error, I got in to that and am now readying myself for ThereIM.

I don’t think MW was happy he had to shut There down and I’m sure he felt bad about doing it. If it never worked, it never worked. I bet it’s been bugging him the whole time it was closed. The reason I believe this is because he did reopen it and he thinks he found away for it to work and I hope that it does work as I miss me There friends! I am having some problems getting back in. It was working fine the past few days and most of today then i got an “As system error occurred. See details for more information.” and I tried it more than once even tried restart my pc and everything and got this under details.

Read all of step three in the invite email. Be sure to close ThereIM and restart it.

That looks like the kind of error that was described in the email, indicating you didn’t correctly alter the shortcut to ThereIM client and are trying to log into an old server that no longer exists. Check that you changed the launch string correctly (if you aren’t sure, you might even uninstall and reinstall the ThereIM client to get a clean start).

On the There.com 2D page under people you can search. It’s a little picky sometimes so I use the first three letters of a name and see if I can get a hit that way. So far I have found quite a few people that way. Hope this helps!

I find that watching the world wake up in pieces like this is actually pretty fascinating. On the last night of There in March of 2010, the end of the world was a sudden, jarring moment. Well, I self-invited this morning, since the banner was up — created an avatar, reset a forgotten password, downloaded and installed the client, and successfully logged into ThereIM — all within about twenty minutes. Now I just have to wait for my inventory and a few of my old buddies to show up (yeah, I know, patience). First thing I need to do when the world opens is change the oil in my Solid Pine Buggy, then check the feelium tank in my Tribal hoverboard — and then find a way to get to Snow Top (if my bookmarks aren’t back yet) and sacrifice myself in gratitude. š

Guys, I am having a problem and I am wondering if anyone can help me with it, so if you see this post, I would really appreciate it
if you could post a reply and help me out.
I clicked the Invite Me Now link, and went through all that good stuff. (I installed ThereIM, and yes I did read the whole email and install it the right way)
I went to Create an Avatar and I put in my old username (H1r3dAssas1n) and it told me it was a legacy name, so I went to the next step.
I put in the email info, the DoB info, agreed to the Terms of Service, and then I came across a problem:
I didn’t have the slightest idea of what my old password was.
I figured I could easily resolve this by just going back to the homepage and clicking “Forgot Name or Password”, and that is was I did.
I put in the information it asked for, ( Avatar Name & Email Address ) and I got the message:
“The information provided was not valid. Please provide a valid Avatar Name and Email address.”
I re-typed all the information and tried again, and got the same thing. I triple checked the information I provided and I KNOW
it’s the right info! From there on, I did not know what I could do because I couldn’t reset my password/use secret question!
Help please! I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong or something but…

Usually I dont post comments here but just to help you I’m making an exception. What you are doing wrong is you are using the link on the There website. That doesn’t work. It’s an older system and it is no longer linked to the accounts that is why it says it is invalid. In the resurrection email sent you have to use the “Help Me Remember Stuff’ link.

ThereIM temporally turns my Windows7 to basic mode when ThereIM opens a chat or Change Me. If I close the chat put still have the program running it is still in basic mode. Once I completely close the program it changes it back to normal. But My computer see’s it as ThereIM is trying to hurt my computer. So now every tie i turn it on it wants me to do a restore and wipe everything off my computer. Is anyone else having these problems? I sent this to the Feedback email but never got a response back. Nobody else that I know or talk to seems to have this problem.

Im on vista and it changed the scheme to basic for me too but i never got the warning that thereIM was gonna hurt my computer but my girlfriend had her virus killer throw up a warning when she 1st tried to use thereIM but somehow she fixed it.

I am on Vista and had to turn off my user account controls. It was blocking the thereim profile, clubs, there central, but it let thereim work. I finally remembered that I had to do that to use the There 3d world and gave it a try and it fixed everything. Now I get this annoying warning that my pc is in jeopardy and to turn on user account control…..lol.

I am not real a compter geek, I’m just able to keep from killing my baby….. But could this be the same thing I had on VISTA…. when at the begining that I played around with till I fixed by changing my Graphics Media Accelerator from 32bits to 16bits because ..now… my colors are off. (not as many options)

Hey Brandyn, I have the same issue, When I login to ThereIM it switches to Windows7 Basic and the colors change and all, but soon as I close it it’s fine.. dunno what it is!

Now that I know its not JUST my computer do you think we could get some sort of support on this MW? I have tried to fix it with the basic’s of what I think it would be, and the don’t change a thing. Thank you guys for replying that you have the same issue.
I get this on any There.com program I open, There 3D client, StyleMaker, and ThereIM it all does the same.

Give it time! Everyone I’ve talked to noticed the same thing. They’ve all seen that date correct itself so don’t fret about it yet. Once the migration is complete, if that date is still wrong or if you’re missing something, THEN you should start to worry.

Hey MW i have got onto thereIM with no problems but then when i tried to go to “change me” i had this popup error.. so i thought maybe it was just because we didnt get our stuff yet. Then i tried to IM my friend and when i accepted it the same popup came up. “there cannot find working OpenGL or DirectX graphics support. A possible cause might be missing or outdated graphics drivers. An update may be available from your computer manufacturer. The specific problems: OpenGL: DirectX: unknown directX error”

I logged in my first account to the ThereIm and all my stuff was coming up inmediatley.
and I registered this account just today..
Yesterday I registered my second account and as of today i still dont have anything on my inventory…
But I will patiently wait =)

did you remember your password? Or did you have to recover it?
Because I tried recovering mine and I put in every email address I own and it still said invalid
If you had to recover it maybe you know a little more about recovery then I do?
